True, but it's still strange. At least Pat Tillman gave up the NFL for his country. Glen Coffee gives it up for - a semi pro league?

He must've REALLY wanted to play LB/Safety.

he quit the NFL because he felt Christ was calling him to do something else with his life. he said he started getting very religious during his time at Bama, and that he even felt Christ was calling him to quit football before the NFL Draft. i thought he was going to go to divinity school and become a minister. when he quit the NFL, he said his next step would be to go back and finish his undergrad degree first (not saying he planned on going to divinity school, but i know you need to have your undergrad degree to get into divinity school just like you do to get into law school or other grad schools). one of those articles above makes it sound like he still hasn't gotten his undergrad degree yet, because it says he is still doing online classes toward his degree. but i don't know if that is in reference to his undergrad degree or his master's degree (i remember he was talking about possibly getting his masters degree too)

as for where he stands now, i don't know if his call from Christ is just as strong as it was when he quit the NFL or not. i've had friends that got this intense call from Christ at times in their live, but the intensity comes and goes (even Mother Teresa reported periods of her life where she felt distant from God)
