Everyone says its all about money.

ABC cannot be happy that their ratings will suffer drastically with such a crappy matchup. So many many dollars lost on that end.

Does Illinois travel better than Georgia? I would think not.

    So what gives?

It is merely a bunch of old phucking stupid white men who must keep with tradition and promote an inferior Illinois team just to keep the integrity of the bowl alive (Big 10 vs Pac 10)?

I thought the Sugar had claimed Georgia first, but I am hearing reports that simply was not true and the Rose had a shot at picking Georgia.

It was our one great chance to see a strong SEC team vs USC.

    Seriously, WTF?

I wanted the UGA vs USC match up desperately. The ratings would be off the charts with all the trashtalk between conferences.

Well, they couldn't take the chance of USC getting beat now could they? Georgia playing as well as they did the last 6 games would have made that tough on the Trojans and that can't happen either.
    *tongue in cheek*

What is the rule? Who has the first choice in that situation?

Who cares about tradition...Only Puff 10 and Little 10 people care about that game...BCS bowls need to take advantage of the opportunity of putting together their best matchups possible...I think that only the Fiesta Bowl was able to accomplish that...And that 2 team per conference maximum sucks, if you gonna have a 3 loss team in the BCS, then why not Florida...The Rose Bowl is the most overrated of the bowl every year and the Orange Bowl is a joke...Usually, the Capital One and Outback Bowl have better matchups than the Orange Bowl.

RB has first pick since they lost a Big 10 team, then it was the SB's pick...The problem was, that if the RB wanted Ugh-A, they need permision from the SB, since it holds the rights over SEC teams...Reports are that the RB never asked for permission.

You ask for an explanation...yet you give it yourself. It IS all about the "tradition". They WILL NOT take a non traditional opponent if there is a traditional opponent eligible...period. That is a given.

What I can't comprehend is Kansas over Mizzou to the OB.:rolleye33:

It's a bit complicated, but here goes:

The Rose has contractual obligations to the Pac 10 and Big 10 champs. As long as they don't play in the NC, they go to the Rose automatically. Same for the Sugar getting the SEC champ, the Fiesta getting the Big 12 champ and the Orange getting the ACC champ. The Big East champ can be picked by anyone to fill a remaining spot.

This year the Big 10 and SEC champs are playing in the title game.

Because Ohio State finished #1 in the BCS, the Rose gets to replace their Big 10 champ with whomever they chose. Well not quite. There is a rule that states:

"When two bowls lose host teams, then the bowl losing the number one team may not select a replacement team from the same Conference as the number two team, unless the bowl losing the number two team consents".

Therefore the Rose cannot select Georgia UNLESS the Sugar gives them "permission" to do so. It's being reported that the Rose never asked permission for Georgia and just simply picked Illinois.

In the end, would the Sugar have given up Georgia? I would hope not.

The Rose Bowl because the Big 10 champ went to the BCSNC and then the Sugar Bowl who lost LSU. Will differ depending on the original order per year and the Sugar has the last pick overall because the Sugar is the 1st BCS game this year. I believe the Rose had to ask permission from the Sugar to take their next in line SEC represenative. Therefore the Sugar Bowl wisely said no and for some reason the Rose decided to take Illinois to keep their traditional Pac10/Big10 matchup.

Reports coming out from different newspapers and websites were that the Rose Bowl never asked the Sugar Bowl.
