It's amazing to me how many people think they know LSU's finances better than the President and Athletic Director of the University. I think it's great that we DIDN'T WANT to give Jimbo Fisher a raise, and who knows if we could have even afforded it. At a great price we hired ourselves a coach who put out dumpster fires at both USC and LSU... who is a legendary recruiter... who has shown a great ability to make chicken salad out of chicken shit... and leaves enough in the bank to hire the very best offensive and defensive coordinators. This wasn't just a WIN, this was a WIN, WIN, WIN.
It all depends. If O produces a winner and we continue to see revenues going up in ticket sales, concessions, licensing agreements for fan items like jerseys, etc. then the decision looks like a rose and we will all have to say nice things about Alleva. However, if we become a 8-4 team year in and year out and said revenues take a dive then that extra 3 million a year sounds pretty damn cheap. How much do you think revenues went up when Saban became our coach and we started playing like champions? I bet the gumps would tell you that Saban's salary is fairly relative to what they bring in. I'm not saying this was the wrong hire, just that only time will tell the wisdom of it. Either way, I'm a Tiger and I'm always all in.
Nice thing is if he (eaux) is a dud then we cut ties and we have saved some money as well. Can't image there is a huge buy out (correct me if I'm wrong bhelm)
Fair points. What I would suggest is that there was a fair amount of talk around here in the past about O being the DC. If all goes bad and Aranda leaves down the road, I think O might be able to do a pretty credible job coaching defense, or at least providing oversight to a up and coming DC.
Absolutely no comparison of Orgeron's offense vs Miles. Miles tried to hide his QB, Oregeron tried to be very balanced.
Plus we threw the ball to the TE. I don't think I had seen a TE catch the ball in a couple of years before Miles was fired. The TE is such mismatch at the NFL level when he is open, and it is even more so in the college game. Hardly any safeties in college have the size to cover the TE effectively in the passing game. The coaching staff that was in place did a good job within the context of the offensive system that the team already knew and had been studying. It would have been unrealistic to expect a massively different system.
We also threw to our FB's and RB's more. Our offense was much more dynamic with O and SE. SE was a TE coach thrown into the job whereas Cameron was paid millions and was not at all as productive. Gilbeau is a turd!
