I still think our secondary has been exposed this year primarily because we weren't pressuring QBs enough. It seemed last week like our coaches had turned the corner in their philosophy and started to pressure a lot. If we continue that, our secondary needs to cover, sure, but having pressured QBs means that even when the ball gets to a receiver, it may not be a good-looking, very catchable pass. If we pressure, we have a good chance to win. But I still think our CBs should have one primary responsibility this week--cover A.J. Green and Massaquoi every single play, and let the front seven apply the pressure and stop the run. But don't let those two cats get out in the open for even a second.
I think you are on to something. But here is what some people dont understand about coverage or maybe they do, I dont know. Our CBs have to lock the receiver down for 5 seconds, with our D-Line , that is enough time for them to pressure the guy into making bad throws. If we cant lock them down for 5 seconds, we will get picked apart, thats in man coverage. Zone is a different beast, everyone must participate in that coverage. I dont think Georgia has the tight end to really give us fits in our coverage. So I like the defenses chance against both the run and the pass in this game. Its not like FLorida where the spread you out and try to beat you with their speed and trick gimmick plays.
Exactly. Georgia is a pretty standard offense, and LSU's D has always thrived against non-gimmicky offenses (see Florida and last year's Arkansas game). Quarterbacks who can run with the ball or escape a sack tend to get the best of us. Truth be told, I am more worried about stopping Ole Miss' offense than Georgia or Alabama.
Wasn't a lot of gimmicks involved with the Kentucky and Arkansas teams you lost to last year. I dont understand the "we can handle normal offenses but we have trouble with the gimmicks" statement.
