Positive: Wr's vs DB's: Pretty excited about this matchup. Just need to give the QB time. I think Toliver could have a big day if the o-line will allow it. Negative: TE/RB's vs LB's Orson Charles is a legit concern and I expect him to do extremely well. Green will see the ball come his way, but obviously our DB's are a little better than most of the ones they have seen so far. Therefore, I think their RB's will probably see the ball come their way in the passing game a lot more. If anyone would like to talk about an actual football game feel free to contribute.
I totally agree with your negative. The way to beat LSU is to throw the ball short to your backs and tight ends, and let them do the rest. Our Linebackers have to step up and make tackles and cover better. But our Defensive Line MUST show up, and put pressure on Cox. Cox is erratic when pressure is put on him, and the Defensive Ends MUST NOT BREAK CONTAIN. Areas that must be fixed: Long snapping. We CANNOT have any more mistakes with the long snaps or holds. We have given away a ton of points this season on botched snaps, and this has to be fixed NOW. O-Line has to play with heart, Ciron Black needs to show us why he was given that All American recognition. They have the ability, they need to work their tails off.
A good Georgia defense could rattle Jordan Jefferson, but I don't think Georgia has a good defense. This is the game to put it together offensively for LSU.
This game rests on the shoulders of the Offensive Linemen. Georgia will score points and we have to outdo them. I also hope they've addressed and corrected the long snapper issues.
Orson Charles could definitely pose a problem if our safeties and nickel backs don't have a good game. We need to get to the QB Saturday. Time and time again we rushed the MSU QB only to see him heave it a second before we could get to him and he burned us a couple of times when we blitzed. We need to rattle Cox and make him defensive and throw off his back foot a few times. Our strength is the turnover and that's where it will all begin. I think our defense will hold it's own vs their offense. It all boils down to our gameplan. Do we really get aggressive like Les Miles alluded to in the passing game when they bunch the line? Do we use Shepard for more than just a few plays as well as let him burn them with a pass)? Do we run out of what appears to be pass formations vs doing the obvious? If we mix it up and confuse their defense, LSU wins this and probably going away. If we stick to the gameplan of forcing the run and put Jefferson in precarious positions, we will have too many turnovers to overcome and Georgia will win going away.
GA isn't a very good defensive team or at least they haven't been thus far. LSU should be able to move the ball through the air with ease.
The biggest matchup for me is their defense vs our offense. Both units are ranked at the bottom of the SEC in their respective categories. Which has the most upside potential and greatest chance for improvement? I think its our offense. I see us wining a high scoring game.
I think the most critical thing the Tigers can do to secure victory is to SUSTAIN DRIVES. It's sickening how little time they've actually spent on the field this year. Obviously, this is directly related to the success of our running game. Our defense will be aided tremendously if the offense can keep them off of the field. In fact, I'm really curious to see how much it effects the defense's performance. Perhaps the defense just seems much worse than it is because they're constantly on the field. Either way, we absolutely have to get some semblance of a running game going if we want to have any shot at winning this game. We've been talented enough to win games without one so far, but the fun stops now. I don't care how anemic UGA's pass defense is, we will not beat them if we can't run.
AJ Green vs our DB's is the matchup I'm most interested to see. Will Patrick Peterson continue to man one side of the field, or will he be in charge of blanketing AJ? And we've got Coleman to cover Orson Charles. Also, UGA's running game really hasn't been strong, but we've been getting killed by the draw. I'm curious how that plays out.
