Zimmerman spearhead a protest against the police for beating a black man. He took a black girl to his prom and he tutors young black kids. And he voted for Obama. He's definitely a racist. Now if Jesse or al ever have to kill a white man. It's definitely racial profiling.
I think those who presume Zimmerman is a racist are incorrect. I think those who assume Trayvon Martin was a thug are incorrect. I think two people were both scared of the circumstances and their collective reactions seem to support my theory. People do weird things when they are fearful and this seems to be a classic example. Some would say that Zimmerman's pursuit of Trayvon could not have been fueled by fear but given that Zimmerman's home had been previously burglarized I think Zimmerman's pursuit of Trayvon was entirely about fear. Martin's fear were likely rooted in the fact that he was a young black man and, like it or not, non-black people in this country look upon young black men walking around after dark with suspicion. The fact that each of them are a different color from themselves fueled this fear. We now know the results of their fears and it isn't pretty for either of them. Martin lost his life and Zimmerman will also lose his life to a certain extent because he will never be able to freely mingle with the public without encountering those who would do him harm. The media has certainly exacerbated the problem by giving the trial almost exclusive coverage with different media outlets taking different angles as to who was innocent and/or guilty. Shitty situation and probably grounds for reconsidering stand your ground laws, or at least how they are written, but this shouldn't be a racial issue the way it has become. I do think that the family of Trayvon Martin have conducted themselves extremely well during the course of this who trial.
Maybe the discussion needs to be more about "hoodie" profiling. If you are in Zimmerman's situation and there have been multiple burglaries and see someone walking around in a hoodie (regardless of race), do you profile that person?
Because the stand your ground law enabled this guy to defend himself you think it should be grounds for reconsideration? SMH. It did exactly what it was supposed to do. I am not saying he had to follow Trayvon. What I am saying is, given the situation he found himself in, he should be able to defend himself.
George was keeping an eye on trayvon till law showed up. He also broke off the pursuit when 911 told him that he didnt need to do that. Trayvon is the one that came back and confronted Zimmerman. It's one thing to follow somebody. It's another to attack someone.
To say "think" after the post before yours (quoted above) he is a racist tells me non blacks have no chance of objectivity with many. Seriously. If that guy's a racist I'm a black astronaut. True. Two lives "lost" and many ruined, in part. No winners here. Definitely the media, as usual. Wasn't that what I said that you disagreed with in another thread concerning Obama? How so? This case had nothing to do with it, technically. It came down to self defense. I saw a tape of Al S and Omara back in April and MOM (Mark O'Mara) said then it wasn't about stand your ground, and wouldn't be. In other words, if someone confronts us with force we're expected to retreat? I say let me have the choice of flight or fight; otherwise, we're handing over the "rights" to the perps. Think about it, if someone know you can't "stand your ground" can they not bull over you.
Like I said, I tried to ignore the story but have heard the following. Feel free to correct me as I'm not sure if I believe all of the following: 1. Shoved a police officer in 2005. 2. Domestic issue in 2005 with ex-fiancee that I think you referred to above. 3. Referred to ex-fiancee as "ex-hole" and also had anti-Mexican comments on myspace. 4. Tried to become a police officer but did not make it through. 5. Called 911 46 times while part of neighborhood watch, including some calls about unruly kids in the pool. The bulk of my impression of Zimmerman is mostly when people have defended him (or later the verdict), they always said something to the effect of "Zimmerman is a jerk and should have handled the situation better, but he did not break the law". Everyone defending the verdict also made it a point to bash Zimmerman. I don't think he's racist but my impression of him is negative. I guess "bully" somewhat fits.
I know a few cops that used to be really good guys. Once they put that badge on though. Totally different. They should be tattooed. " instant asshole just add a badge". Only in America can the white man be blamed for something done by a Mexican to a black man.
