I read on here and ToS that most LSU fans feel that they should enjoy this winning rollercoaster of seasons that we have now because it will not last forever. Now, I'm not unreasonable to think that LSU MIGHT eventually slip sometime in the future but my opinion is that for the past decade we have built ourselves a football program with longevity and one that is appealing to high-profile players. The main reason I don't see this train slowing is that I think the days of State school loyalty is over. There are those Louisiana or Alabam kids who grow up dreaming of heroism in their State but a lot of these kids are looking towards their future and the school that will get them there. I know CLM, Chavis and other assistants will leave, hopefully much later, but I don't see Miles leaving LSU without a plethora of talent for the next head coach. What do y'all think?
I agree CLM has set this program up for long term success. However he won't be here forever and a bad hire can send things spiraling downward in a hurry. Let's just hope we keep hiring good coaches.
We won two BCSNCs during the first decade of the new century. That certainly puts us at the highest level of achievement. We've got to expect to stay on top. We've got to demand that we stay on top. If we accept mediocrity, we could slip back to mediocrity. The only way that we slide back to the 1990s is if we stop demanding excellence.
there you go just a little something to worry about - good job CLM has young kids and is a happy family man - he ain't going to do nothing but be a Dad and coach LSU for many years to come !!!
CLM likes the turf in Death Valley much more than that of other stadiums. The Original Varietal was "Mississippi Choice," but the Baton Rouge-grown derivative is called "Revolution." So there, doubters! CLM loves the DV Revolution turf! He ain't goin' nowhere--not as long as said turf is watered, fertilized and bathed in the sweat of LSU players and the blood of the vanquished! :geaux:
You know, it is diffucult to keep a program on top in the SEC. But you could argue that over the past decade LSU has had the most successful football program. This success will carry over with us for a long while especially if CLM stays at the helm.
I don't think this ride will last forever. All you have to do is look at every dominant program that came before us. I do have to give credit to Bama for recycling and resurfacing, however. But even they have gone through some dark periods in their program. All that said, I am hopeful that LSU will remain a solid program throughout the years that competes well in the SEC. Hopefully, the dark days of much of the 90s is behind us - forever!
All you have to do is look to the state of Florida to see how delicate the balance of power can be. FSU, FLA, and MIA all out of the top 25. Texas is trying to come back. USC, Penn State, and Ohio State on the outside looking in. It comes and goes. I think all good programs have some bad times. The better programs rebound faster
Success can turn on a dime. See So Cal and UF. LSU has had two great coaching regimes. As long as LSU stays out of NCAA trouble and quality transitions are made on the coaching staff, the talent will be there. Tomorrow is not guaranteed. Enjoy today. Carpe diem!
