Great O-lineman who played for the Raiders and is well known for leading the NFLPA for the past 25 years, died today from Pancreatic cancer. He was diagnosed with it just this past Sunday.
People will say some bad things about him because of the past couple of years due to his role with the players, but many forget that he may be the best guard in the history of the league and a great guy. Plus he did lots of good things in the nineties.
I was going to post he was arguably the best left guard ever to play the game. I'm with you on that TB3.
Upshaw & Art Shell were the best tandem to play OL together. Unfortunately they played for the hated Raiders and being a Broncos fan they ruined many a Sunday afternoon for me. I didn't agree with everything that Gene did as head of the NFLPA during the '90s but I understand he did what he thought was best for his players.
