I noticed on TV lots of crawfish boils in the parking lot........I normally don't get any crawfish after May, was the supply above normal this year and were they really hard shelled by now???
They ususally start getting hard around June or July. I ate some last week and they were still easy to peel but if you want any this year you better hurry.
Just had some last weekend, very small and very light colored like late Jan/early Feb La. crawfish. I am hearing about crawfish farms in California now.........Nate's in Dallas, Nate says he gets bugs year round now.
I get bugs year round here. Come from china In the offseason. Don't care for no chinese bugs, in any season. Huge farms up in Oregon which, is where most are from here. Only live ones here I have had are from Louisiana. Every year I work at the annual LSU Alumn boil. Largest boil on earth, 3 years running...
Do you live in San Diego? A friend of mine visits his LSU alum friend in SD and has gone to the boil a few times. Told me last year they boiled 10,000 pounds and a lot of them were not eaten. Probaly the California raised spouses and kids of the alums.
Yeah, but they boiled more like 20,000 lbs. This year, there was 27,000 lbs. Now they are selling 50 lb boxes for 80 bucks after the event. That Is where they clean house. I don't pay for my box though, but I do bust ass volunteering.
LA Crawfish are always pretty abundant in June and when we have late cold spells in the spring the season usually lasts even longer. Last year we got some great bugs in July. I had some great ones last night that weren't large yet so I'm thinking we will still be getting the real good ones through June at least.
