Yea between a man and a woman, the analogy doesnt make sense at all. This is a gender question, not a race question. My race was predetermined, I dont believe homosexuality is predetermined. So no the analogy doesnt resonate with me. I said nothing about procreation, thats not my argument.
It isn't a gender or race question. It's a civil rights question. Had the Loving case not been successful, everyone's race would be pre-determined....to be EXACTLY what your parent's ethnicity is. Still, I am unclear as to what predetermination has to do with access to civil rights. Are people only allowed the same rights and privileges based on how they are born? What if, as you suggest, people are not born gay and the cause is due to the household environment. Should there be civil lawsuits against the parents of gay folks? I think the government should avoid defining words and meanings for people and they probably ought to stay out of the marriage business. What I am trying to understand from you is what exactly is your opposition to the concept of 2 consenting adults to engage in completely legal activity for the sake of having a relationship and all the rights and access it includes.
Dont call it marriage, that holds a different value to me vs civil union. Yes marriage should be handled by religious institution, any kind of union should be called civil for the purpose of rights and benefits.
they shouldnt its my opinion, just like anyone giving a shit about you sticking your finger up your ass at night and smelling it, thats your right.
B/c Marriage to many people is a religious and sacred thing. With that, and also that the nation is about 50/50 on the subject, the real compromise is a civil union with the EXACT same rights. Everyone can be happy then. It really seems to me that Gays/supporters just want that word marriage to garner acceptance.
I agree with this post, Pride. In fact the majority of gay persons that I know could care less about the word marraige; they just want the same rights. Too much is getting made of this issue when in fact we could make it go away by granting the rights without the word marraige included and most people on both sides would be satisfied. Religious people get to keep their sacred word and gay people get the rights they deserve.
