True, but I think its a bad law and should go away. For historical perspective to those blaming (or crediting, depending on your perspective) the Elephants for DOMA. When it passed Democratic Senators voted for the bill 32 to 14 and Democratic Representatives voted for it 188 to 65. Clinton signed into law immediately saying "I remain opposed to same-sex marriage. I believe marriage is an institution for the union of a man and a woman. This has been my long-standing position, and it is not being reviewed or reconsidered.". He left the subject out of his 2004 biography and didn't support gay marriage publicly until 2009. So its really not like DOMA's only support has been the religious far right.

100% correct. Dems didn't switch their position until Biden went on Meet The Press and went "rogue."

So we're assuming to know the mind of (the son of) God or are we just appealing to reasonableness? I ask because I think it's perfectly reasonable for this country which is not a theocracy to legally recognize same-sex marriage the same way we recognize rape as a serious crime. Perhaps Jesus didn't feel the need to discuss it because he knew that eventually the King of England would gather scholars to put together a collection of works that would become the standard book for the religion he unknowingly founded and in those works would be the wisdom we all seek when looking for answers as to what creatures from the sea we should eat and if sodomy with a guy is cool? :)

Jesus did discuss pedophilia, if I'm not mistaken. It's a verse in the NT that people mistakenly attribute to homosexuality, but the original Greek text refers to pedophiles.

Interesting. So marriage is a construct only for social benefit via procreation. What do we do then with couples who either can't or don't want to have children? Hetero couples who can procreate but have genetic issues when they produce children? What about hetero couples who are married but are abysmal parents and continue to release their vermin behaving offspring on an undeserving public? How about unmarried heteros who continue to have children out of wedlock? Should we force them to get married so they don't remain on welfare?

Mastermind, do you seriously not see the analogy between gay marriage and the Loving case? When you go back to the laws that spurred those events, they were largely based on opposition to the sexual acts occurring between mixed race couples. After all, it was a felony for mixed race folks to have marital sex while only a misdemeanor for whites only to have extramarital sex. Take away that aspect and as was said earlier, it becomes simply about the relationship between two people. Newsflash....not all gay couples are engaging in sex just like there are lots of sexless hetero marriages.

The thing is, the gay population is likely kinda higher than previously reported. IMO it is only a matter of time before it becomes legal just about everywhere. Look at Prop 8. CA is a liberal nightmare but somehow managed to pass it. The 9th Circuit will overturn it...over and over again. At some point, judges appointed by the left will be socially engineering all of us.
