Thanks. That doesn't sound good for LSU. We've head that "toughest decision" comment too many times to count IRT baseball. But, like you said, maybe he will change his mind.

the reason he probably went much higher than expected is because he probably convinced them before they drafted him that he was ready to sign rather than do college ball

with the new MLB rules...not only do they impose a strict cap on the total amount of money a team can spend on signing bonuses, but that cap becomes even smaller if they fail to sign a pick they took in the top 10 rounds (and the higher round the pick they fail to sign, the exponentially more money their cap shrinks by)

so, MLB teams aren't going to take a guy in the top ten rounds, esp the earliest rounds, unless they are damn sure he is going to sign with him (for ex, I saw this article on Miss State's ace Stratton with all these quotes from scouts saying he wanted to go pro early, and sure enough they didn't have any problems drafting him 1st Rd)

so when you see LSU commits like Bregman (top 150 prospect) and Chinea (top 300 prospect) not getting taken in the draft, that's probably because the teams weren't very convinced they would sign with them rather than go to LSU for a few years

at the same time, this means that Gausman and Goody are most certainly gone

the 2012 MLB draft is now over. amazing that Katz didn't get drafted. maybe he told them he'd be back his senior year at LSU no matter what

Hanover went in the 33rd Round, Rhymes went in the 30th Round, Goody went in the 6th, Nola in the 5th, and Gausman was #4 overall

as for LSU commits, Gallo and Diaz both went Top 51 overall, Hayden Jennings went in the 6th, RHP Will LaMarche (JUCO signee) went in the 18th, and Alex "the Bomber" Bregman went in the 29th

Read an interesting article on Bregman, said once he wasn't taken in the 1st round he knew he was coming to LSU. Was it him that broke his finger, and did that drop him to a later round?

according to an article I just read:

Bregman "expressed to scouts his desire to play for the Tigers and Paul Mainieri and, coupled with a high money figure his advisors threw out to teams steered teams from selecting him."

under the new draft rules, team are severely limited in how much they can spend in signing bonuses and they are further penalized if a top ten rounds player refuses to sign

I've read of several high school players talking about how they were contacted by several teams to gauge if they would go pro or not, and how much money they expected based on where they projected them

great news for LSU. I'm extremely happy to know that a stud like this will be playing for us the next three years, esp since he can blast some home runs
