How would you feel if it was normally $9.99 and they raised it to $12.99 every July 4th and Labor Day?
You mean like winter clothes, then summer clothes? In all seriousness, I'd probably switch back to rye, or maybe stock up some before the seasonal demand kicked up.
I understand, but without the sugar industry subsidies, those sugar farmers would be out of business with no one to sell to, because they can't compete with South America.
Back on topic - link With less than 1% of all federal agricultural subsidies going to sugar producers, of which only a small fraction conceivably gets to the sugar farmers, the small sugar farmers are the ones in trouble. Even without the import quotas to artificially inflate the domestic price of raw sugar, global demand still exceeds supply, which dictates higher prices. I think I have talked myself around a circle.
if only you were king of the earth and you could just take oil that isnt yours for the price you choose. private property, the idea that people own things that are not yours, that can be frustrating. i know you get a "me wanty" feeling from time to time, but you have to squash it.
What a non-sequitor. The subject was about gas companies arbitrarily raising prices regardless of their costs and doing it to coincide with peak usage time, resulting in windfall profiteering. You are on some kind of Karl Marx fantasy about ownership of private property. Ya' been burnin' a lot of tree in da las' month, haven't you, Mon.
today i was shopping for a new winter coat. they had many coats on sale. far more than were on sale in the fall. but i dont understand it! the fall is when i need the coat most! profiteering bastards! don't i know it brother. dominos pizza has a tuesday special. i get so mad when the pizza isnt as cheap sunday night when the NFL is on. yunno what i call that? dude, alls i am saying is i am ok with people owning things that are not mine, and offering to sell them. i can choose to buy, or not. i expect they will try to maximize profits, and that is fine, i dont whinge about it. again, i think your postion can be summed up thusly: red = me wanty cheap gas. give red what red want.
oh, another point i like to remember. i heard a guy on the radio a couple days ago, he was some sort of fella that worked with wind turbines and alternative energy. he says he needs money for research. he pointed out that when oil prices go up, the investment money for alternative fuel goes up as well. as oil prices go up. so do purchases f hybrid vehicles, ethanol conversions, all kinda gas saving tech. high oil prices are the gateway to change. higher oil prices lead to less consuption, which curbs global warming. keeping oil cheap means mofos will burn it up and it kills our precious and fragile planet. unless the moneygrubbing robberbarons help us out and raise prices, i weep for our future. goodbye polar ice caps, red wants cheap oil.
Silly analogy. Coats are seasonal products and also go out of style so they are put on sale to recover costs. Gasoline is a commodity item that never goes out of style and it is not a seasonal product. Do you ever see gas go "On Sale"? Hell no, they all collude to keep prices high. And the price of your pizza goes up when gas prices go up. Costs for much of what we consume goes up. People outside NYC have no choice but to buy gasoline. America is designed for auto commuters, for suburban malls, and for interstate highways. I can't catch a bus from my house to my office and I live fairly close. My colleague who lives in Livingston Parish can't either. We also have no choice but to buy products that go up with gas prices, especially food. You always want to tell me what I think instead of just telling me what you think. How useless is that? But I'll play. Your position can be summed up as :martin = me wanty argue, even if me position is foolish. me like big oil making profiteering at expense of citizens.
