Gary Patterson on Freak: “We’ve watched him on tape. We didn’t play against a DT like him last year"

Patterson had better be glad he doesn't have to face SEC defenses every week. Facing one for the season opener could be detrimental to his O lines' season! :)

I like some of the names of our front 7. Freak, Ego, Hunter, Rasco, Lamar Louis, Deion, Kwon, D.J.

Hopefully they play as fast and physical as they sound.

I forgot Lamin Barrow. That's one of the better ones also.

    The Advocate today on Freak:

He set the (Louisiana) state high school career sack record with 67.5 and, by his senior year in 2010, he was the nation’s No. 1 defensive tackle prospect, a Parade All-American and the first defensive lineman ever to win the Louisiana Gatorade Player of the Year Award.

Johnson and South Carolina’s Jadeveon Clowney were clearly the top two defensive line prospects nationally for the Class of 2010 — Johnson Mr. Inside and Clowney Mr. Outside. But while Clowney’s college career was a meteoric rise ... Johnson was doing a slow burn (his 1st two years) at LSU (buried behind guys like Brockers and Logan)
    ...
“I feel like I have something to prove,” said Johnson, who is cousins with former Alabama and Dutchtown High running back Eddie Lacy. “Coming out of high school, I was highly touted, along with Jadeveon Clowney. He got a lot of playing time early and felt the praise. I kind of felt belittled because I wasn’t able to play, but my time was coming.
“This year I’m ready to show the world what they’ve been waiting for — not only that I can play football, but great football. ... That’s why I take every rep and do it with a vengeance.”
    ...
“I change into a whole other man” when on the field, Johnson said. “(On the field,) I consider myself a silverback gorilla. ... I tell people there are two silverback gorillas in the world — one in Uganda and one in Baton Rouge.”
    ...
“On the field, I want to be ‘The Freak’ — the guy everyone is intimidated by. Someone teammates rally around,” he said.

“Off the field, I just want to be laidback, a low-key guy who likes to have fun.”

Les should kick him off the team just in case.

They didn't play against a DT like him last year, won't play against one this year, after they play LSU. That being said, many teams will try and double team Freak, I wouldn't go to sleep on Ego. Christian LaCouture is one brought in early and forced fed. He was playing high school in the 280's, now is in the 300# range.
