If your party wasn't terrible at selecting candidates she may not have. The GOP should be moving to the center, not further right, most people are republicans at heart with socially liberal ideals, if the GOP would just stop being so socially conservative they would win every election.
This was a freebie for the GOP, if they could have dumped the teabillies and gone moderate. Same as Clinton (in reverse), if you go moderate, you really don't lose anyone going over to the left, you gain SO MANY from the center. Another squandered opportunity!
