BYU fans were screaming when LSU hired him that this would happen. With that said, I am slightly more encouraged then I was this time last year, Crowton did make several changes for the Spring game that I think will help.
I prefer Chief, too. At the end of 2007, Pelini's D was giving up too many yards and points. I'll agree there were injuries - that is part of the game. We were lucky to get to NCG. As for OC - I'm still out on Crowton. I didn't care for Fisher's play calling at times; however, he did a good job teaching and running the O.
As I pointed out in the last part of my initial post, with a top 15 D, LSU only needs an O ranked better than 45th total. I think Tiger fans need to ask themselves what is really important. I for one would rather consistent D's that are ranked very good. While our D was only 26th in total, our D was still very good and ranked highly in key parts of the D. As long as our D stays at its level, or better, I think Crowton could keep his job if LSU is CONSISTANT on O. Consistent, to me, means that we are able to run our O no matter who we face and who we have playing for us. This means forcing our will on the lines, getting the 3rd and shorts on the ground and going deep when we please. I do not care so much in the overall totals of the O, rather, I care about being able to score a TD when we need it most, AKA UF/LSU 2009. I think Defensive coordinators and Offensive coordinators have to have a different mindset, that in Offense, in the SEC, your goals need to be consistent play. In doing that, you will land an offense that can play vs. any D in the country. I don't think the overall goal on Offense should be to be ranked nationally. My reason is because in this conference, games tend to come down to what team can score when they need to. Last season, in close games, it was almost luck that we scored some of those TD’s. Though on D, while at times scary, our D held STIFF and refused to break. Bending did occur, but under the first year of a new system, the D was more than the backbone of our team. A Defensive coordinator WANTS his D to be ranked number 1 because this means he can stuff all who oppose him. It is not the same with O. UF had one of the best O’s in the country and, while the gained good yards, they failed to reach the end zone consistent with how their O was ranked. Yes, I know they won the game, but it was our game to win, and any consistent play from LSU would have beat that team we played last year. Same for a number of teams we played last year. Even Auburn was ranked very High on O but failed to be consistent when needed most. I for one just want a consistent O and the numbers will follow accordingly. Some care only about those stats, but some point out, those numbers never tell the real story, just go look at JJ’s stats…
Gary Crowton = IDIOT Gary Crowton is absolutely clueless. The way he calls a game is really sad. He and Miles must be FIRED NOW!
I have been pretty much a Crowton hater for 2 years, I have to admit he did at least change that looking to the sidelines crap and the player substitution telegraphing. At least I wasn't calling the exact play based on the player that was in the game... last year I was screaming at the TV.... "Holiday sweep left!!!"... "Scott over Guard from I!!!!"
