Nice attempt at recovery. You think of that answer all by yourself. I think you just ran the option up the short side of the field. an epic fail
Oh yeah, sure. Just because you said so. The only one that continues to fail is you. Hey keep on thinking running the option to the short side of the field is an indication of an offensive genius. I guess nearly last in the NCAA in offense is an indication of an offensive genius to. Oh yeah, LSU is playing with scrubs. Sure. New name for Crowton's option play to the short side of the field. GET ON THE SHORT BUS You would probably jump on.
Sorry if I am late to this thread. But, I have a difficult time believing that the Offense we have seen the last two seasons is really Crowton's offense. Seems to be very conservative (I know we have not had great QB play). Any thoughts about the idea that Les Miles is putting his thumb on the offense and overriding Crowton to add his own, Big 10 flavor? We seem to not look like the wide open Crowton style of offense.
Actually if you half a brain cell you would see I've not defended GC anywhere. I just think your rambling is commical, given when one considers of all the things that need to improve on offense, your major argument is elimentary.
I am very concerned. Crowton ran BYU aground when he was there. Went from 12-2 his first year to losing records the next three, and he followed that same pattern of different quarterback each year. I Les knew what was best for him, he would have replaced Crowton after last year. Crowton could cost Les his job.
Actually what "they" teach is to run the option to the side vacated by the safety. It's about superiority in numbers, and going where the defense is not, or at least making them guess incorrectly. The short side as opposed to the wide side means absolutely nothing if the defense outnumbers you. The option play between Flynn and KW in the Va Tech game was to the short side. It went for a TD. You should probably stop trying to use this as your proof that Crowton is inadequate. The reason the option works poorly for LSU is because JJ runs it as nervously as he drops back to pass. And we probably run it way too much so defenses picked up on our tendencies and made a poor decision-making QB look even worse. But all that aside, I am not pleased with Crowton's play calling, or development of our QBs. His best performance was in 2007 with a 5th year senior, and admittedly very little change to Fisher's previous offense. Since then, we have seen much more of his gimmicks, and plays that were clearly beyong the capacity of our offense. It is also his job to prepare the QBs. He has had 3 years with Lee, and 2 yrs with JJ. Since by all accounts, our OLine has improved, and as a result our running game, the QBs must step forward and deliver. There really is no excuse for him this year if they don't improve.
I think most people would agree with this and I do as well. I wonder if people will give him credit if the offense does take off this year, though. Say, theoretically they finish in the top 20 nationally and top 3 in the SEC. Will the Tiger fans and media come back and give him credit for working wonders with JJ or rehabilitating JL? Will they give Coach Crowton a pass for two years or falling production because of a gaping hole at the qb position in '08 and multiple gaping holes in the line in '09? I feel quite sure that I am a lone wolf on this one but I think Chavis is better than Pelini and Crowton is equal to Fisher. Pelini benefited from a pretty stout defensive line and Fisher benefited from better line play and a qb position that once had Russell, Flynn and Perrilloux all at the same position. I just hope we don't run off a capable coach in Crowton. This is the year to make a judgement....I think he gets back up off the mat.
SIU in case you didn't notice, the option was run to the short side of the field so in case the pitch is muffed, or a fumble occurs the ball can be knocked out of bounds. it's very obvious considering crowton did everything in his power last year to limit turnovers. he has said that over and over again, and it was evident in the passing game also. He was protecting his young quarterback, and didn't want him to have to go through the same hell Jarrett Lee had to endure the previous year.
I would say probably not. More likely Gonzales will be given credit, and he may deserve it. But Crowton probably won't get a raise this year, no matter what happens. I think it is safe to say that he is disliked more than Les at this point. Kind of a lose/lose for Crowton but if he wants a decent paying job somewhere else, he better produce on his way out.
