Check out this website: http://www.picklewagon.com/2007/01/18/lsu-fans-will-suffer-because-of-gary-crowton/ Anybody think he has a point about the second year?
Good points. I wonder though, and it has been brought up before, how much influence CLM is having on the offense. I honestly believe that Crowton has been handcuffed to a certain degree based on the quality of play from the QB's (mainly Lee), and we went extremely vanilla against Arky in a playing not to lose mode. Of course we know that backfired big time. Perhaps a bit gun shy based on previous QB play. Was that CLM or Crowton? If we were going to mostly run in the second half in the Arky game, why not try some sweeps, or get Holliday more involved. I can't understand why they constantly ran Scott up the middle, when Arky was loading up the box. Nice recipe for consistent three and outs... I'm sure they'd like a do-over. :geauxtige
All this Crowton chit is ridiculous. If this year doesn't clue you in to the importance of the QB nothing will. The entire team, offense and defense, depends on having a reliable QB. What did our 2 NC have in common? A veteran, reliable QB. What do most championship teams have? A reliable QB.
Agreed. Crowton's playcalling was limited by the inexperience of the QB's. He's the same guy everyone was praising last year. Does anyone think he forgot how to coach over the summer?
Yeah, to an extent. In the Franklin debacle, there was a mini coup going on the offensive staff. Apparently, the other staff members, who've been with Tubs since Ole Miss, gave Tubs an ultimatum ref. to Franklin - either he goes, or they go. So, Tubs made his decision to stick with his longtime guys. What I find most amazing, however, is Franklin didn't really seem that angry. Probably a little more to the story than that, but that's what I've gotten from articles on al.com. Either way, his offense didn't improve with Franklin gone. Doesn't really matter, anyway. None of my rambling has anything to do with Crowton.
