For whatever reason Miles and the entire team lost focus and discipline this year. The NC last year probably had a lot to do with it. I also agree that since we played last of any football team last year it put a crimp in hiring a new coach. Miles, like the rest of us, probably thought Mallveto would be good enough to keep Pelini's scheme going. Obviously that didn't work out. Coaches aren't perfect. Miles future will rest on the decision he makes about DC. He'll either recognize that an experienced DC is necessary or he'll be stubborn and "loyal" like Dinardo and go down with the ship. LSU is loaded with talent and will be even moreso after this year's recruiting class. There will be plenty of high quality, experienced DC that will salivate at the thought of implimenting their system in the SEC with LSU's talent.
Red can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think last year when his contract was reworked there's a clause in his contract that if he's fired without cause he'd get a payout in the 15 million range. I'm going from memory so I'll rely on Red to correct me if I'm wrong.
If Miles runs off Crowton, it will be a bigger screwup than the Co-DCs. And if he does, I think we need to ask ourselves: What the hell is Miles really bringing to the table?
Well, let's not mention Tubby. He's let plenty of assistants take the fall in his program--including the OC debacle mid-season this year.
Gary Crowton hasn't run the "I" in college ball since he started coaching. that is all Les Miles. <See his career at LaTech, BYU, Oregon> Les Miles is running about 50% of the offense. Similar to the rest of his coaching abilities, he sucks at it on game day. Les, thanks for backing us into that NC last year, but i'm looking forward to the Butch Davis, Mike Leach with Will Muschamp days, or Chris Peterson days.
Fisher's offenses here didn't exactly suck.....Crowton took the job under the understanding that he would continue to run the things that LSU had been successful at in the past and in addition work in the principles that would take advantage of current personnel. Crowton was NEVER under the understanding that he would come in and install the spread. NEVER. Besides that the O was fine last year. We had no qb this year, end of story. I doubt this. I also doubt you have any evidence to back up this statement. 50% of the offense? No way. More likely Les became increasingly uncomfortable with the O's propensity to score points for the opposing team. If he started to interject himself during games toward the end of the season I have to say he had a legitimate reason to.....the O was atrocious at times. Ridiculous statement.....LSU was the best team in the country last year. Sure they needed some luck to get in the game but so does every other team....how many undefeated teams play in the championship game? It's always a political thing because so many teams end up having been beaten at one point or another. It's not Les's fault the system sucks. LSU would have benefited from a playoff system last year. They were playing the best football of anybody after they got healed up. Can't complain about the HC having his team playing better than any other college team in the country. As far as the other coaches go.....I would be willing to bet whatever you want none of the coaches you named will ever coach at LSU. :tigereye:
I tend to disagree with you on Crowton. We have no QB mentor now that Fisher is gone. Flynn was the last of his students. I was not a big fan of jimbo's schemes, but he knew how to groom QB's. If there's one thing we now know about Crowton, it's he can't coach QB's or call plays to enhance their abilities (see 1st half Auburn game, second half RKansas game.) I sure would like to know where R Murphy and K Williams were for the last two games. We were suppose to have "the field of dreams" backfield with a green QB. Throw JJ in the mix with RM, KW, CS and you cannot tell me we should have run over and around Ole Piss and Rkansas. Geez. I would not mind if Crowton had a seat on the Peveto and Mallory bus.
