I've always liked Crowton. Nothing against Jimbo but sometimes I sat there confused wondering why we weren't using our speed, etc. to our advantage.

You can't complain about either one as they were both successful and brought us a lot of great victories that we'll never forget.

If I had to choose either one, I would keep Crowton.

With RP gone and the team having to start an inexperienced QB, Crowton is a great asset to have. He's creative enough to adjust and still confuse defenses. I'm glad we don't have an OC that uses only one system that requires specific talents. If so, we may be up the creek.

    We're not...because Crowton isn't a one-dimensional OC.

    Where?

I dragged this old thread up specifically because I don't see anyone here talking about Crowton's awesomeness.

We just lost RP. Reminding myself that we have one of the best OCs in college football helps me feel that everything is going to be alright.

I was just talking about the way he uses his QBs to their full potential yesterday at BYU. Others here have had plenty of good things to say about Crowton. Dont search the word awsomeness but read between the lines.

I dont think you have to worry about Crowton getting a lack of respect from anyone here.

Look, I'm no expert on football, but I thought Jimbo wasn't that great. Maybe Jimbo did have great LSU moments that I should be proud of as an LSU fan, but I honestly don't remember any. But like I said, I'm no expert on football.

I do think Bobby Bowden is a great coach (or at least was a great coach in his day), and Bowden did choose to hire Fisher as his OC, but I thought Bowden was foolish for doing so. Again, I'm no expert on football. And now, Florida State is talking about making Jimbo Fisher their head coach??? Seriously??? I hate Florida State and I want them to fail, so I'm glad they think Jimbo as their coach is a good idea, but seriously???? Jimbo Fisher????

Look, I was never a big fan of Fisher. In fact, when we hired Miles, one thing I wasn't sure about was his decision to keep Fisher. When Miles hired Crowton, I researched it, and I was impressed. But no, I don't remember what I learned from my Crowton research, I just remember being excited about him as our OC. He didn't disappoint. I don't see a lot of Tiger Fans giving him credit, not even on here in the past when I've talked about how awesome Crowton is for us. Really, the only other TF person I've seen who thinks Crowton is as awesome as I do is Istsl (Izzy, whatever). If we ever lose Crowton as our OC, I imagine I'll be pretty disappointed (assuming Crowton stays awesome). I hope we are paying that guy very well. With Fisher, I was glad he left (in fact, I wouldn't have been surprised if Miles asked him to leave

Well you missed the Kajun in your assessment of people who like Crowton. I realize I'm new here, but Crowton was a major hire. Utilizing the talent he has shows how good a coach he is. I also think Les is smart enough to leave a good thing alone. Sometimes you have to have the Cholly Mac syndrome. "We are going to run this until you stop it."

I'm sure one of our more necro-oriented posters can dig up the dirt, but Crowton got a LOT of praise this season from posters on TF. I can't remember ANYONE pining for Fisher.

The comment about you being a new fan (I'm pretty sure he was joking, bro) was probably made EXACTLY BECAUSE we've been on the Crowton love train since the Miss St and Va Tech vivisections of 2007. He was just wonderin' where you been? Perhaps. Maybe.

    Um. :geaux:

I read or heard (youtube possibly) an interview with Crowton about coming to LSU. But it was more about him and his progress as an offensive mind (although he certainly sounded happy to be here).

He was talking about his supposed "innovativeness". He said when he was younger, he always pushed the envelope, trying to always be doing something new. Then he realized sometimes the team was confused on execution, and sometimes he was just out-cuting himself, and the play was not fundamentally sound for what the defense was showing him. He said in his later years (I don't know, the last 5, 10), he was focused on being EFFECTIVE first, and innovative second. Innovative is no good if its not effective.

I liked the interview a lot. He seemed like he has learned a lot from his career and his travels. What more can you ask for? I like having GC as our OC, and you can't complain about his first season! I think we owe a lot to GC for our :crystal:, IMO.

    AGREE!

I didn't see the interview about Crowton coming to LSU, but what you described was very interesting.

I did come across the link in youtube where Miles announced the hiring of Crowton. It was a pleasure listening to Crowton about his approach to the players at hand as a new coach at that particular PC.

If anyone is interested, the link is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=utpl2rSfqg8
