That was possibly the worst game planning and play calling by Crowton since he arrived at LSU. And I am one of his biggest fans. 1 yard and a cloud of dust has got to go. Stop running the ball in obvious running formations. You are better than that. Where is the innovation? Stop putting your QB in 2nd and 3rd and long. Come SEC play, that will be the death of us. Get Shepard on the field. Get Trindon involved a little more as well. KW needs and deserves more snaps. You have 2 top flight receivers (Toliver has arrived) and one of the best TE's in college football as well as Randle waiting in the wings. Air the ball out. Stretch out the defense so we can run that slam up the middle. Week 2 MUST be better. MUCH better.
Not sure I blame Crowton entirely. JJ checked out of alot of initial plays and when he did drop back, he either didn't have time to throw or looked skittish and took off running or threw the ball out of bounds. It was still an ultra conservative game plan, but JJ didn't look entirely comfortable back there.
JJ is a true sophomore who has now started 3 games. He'll get better. If you expected an experienced Jr. or Sr. QB, you expected too much. The frosh QB at USCw was playing a high school team, not a PAC 1 team. I thought JJ played a solid game. OK, the concern is Crowton's play calling. I'm curious about it, but not concerned. With the success LaFell and Toliver had when given the opportunity, I thought they may throw more to them. Maybe they didn't think they had to tonight. Maybe they wanted to establish their identity as a running team. Maybe they didn't want to show too much of the playbook to early. We know Crowton has a more diverse offense than what we saw. There has to be a reason, I'm thinking.
It was the play calling and the poor execution from the "Best Offensive Line Ever" at LSU. This line looked confused and couldnt pick up a blitz all night. I am very unimpressed with both lines right now except for a few individuals. T-Bob, played his azz off.
I have to admit it was hard to notice anyone doing well on the O-line. I didn't notice T-bob at all unfortunately. The awful play overall masked it.
How many times did we pass out of the pistol? Isn't the whole point of that formation is that it's a hybrid?
I'm hoping that the play-calling was intentionally vanilla. It didn't look like Crowton's typical gameplan, but maybe the coaches were trying to establish JJ's confidence in a pretty hostile environment. That Seattle crowd impressed me. I agree that we absolutely need to air it out because we can do that, and UW didn't have the athletes to compete with Toliver and Lafell. Trindon was misused as just a tailback. He needs to get the ball with room to move before he hits a line. Our OL was struggling. The absence of Big Herm, for instance, was noticeable. When Charles Scott has as abysmal a game as he had last night, it tells me we should be a bit more creative with the offensive talent we have. Prior to Toliver's first TD last night, I almost thought we should've put Lee in the game to throw (NOT SHORT PASSES...no, no, NO!), but to get the ball downfield. I also thought that Jefferson was tucking and running sometimes when we MUST have had a receiver open. But it would be hard to tell because of the crappy broadcast. I mean, did we really miss Toliver's TD because we were looking at Davis advertising what was coming up at the half?
one of the better posts i've read so far about the game, agree 100% edit: oh and yes i think the gameplanning is intentionally vanilla especially in the 1st half.
