"We sat down with Sam Hinkie, the Rockets' vice president of basketball operations, to better understand how Houston's Summer League roster was put together. With that, we went through the Rockets' Summer League roster name by name, with Hinkie explaining the organization's rationale for each invitation: Garrett Temple Hinkie: "He's a perfect example. He's a two-position, maybe three-position, defender. He's a massive winner. He's caught between positions." For a big, combo guard like Temple who didn't work in the most generous system for his talents at LSU, Summer League offers the perfect laboratory to see what he can do at the point. Hinkie: "It might take him a month. It might take him a few years in Europe. But if he can make that transition, he's an NBA player." Wherever Temple ends us next year, the Rockets will continue to watch him." How You Assemble a Summer League Roster - TrueHoop By Henry Abbott - ESPN
Good read. Doesn't surprise me that the Rockets like a guy like Temple because their organization is on the forefront of trying to measure intangibles through statistics. Shane Battier is one of Houston's most valued players for instance, because of his basketball IQ, defense and versatility. These are also things Temple has in spades. Could definitely see GT playing in the NBA eventually.
Temple WILL be a Rocket before long. They love players who are versatile and can defend multiple positions.
i sure hope he can play eventually, but i dont see how they can afford to get 0 offense out of his position. even bowen and battier can hit open Js.
