if Yao is overrated, then what is Shaq?

    Last 2 seasons:

    Yao: 06-07: 25 pts 9.4 boards 2 blks
    05-06: 22.3 pts 10.2 boards 1.6 blks

    Shaq:
    06-07: 17.4 pts 7.4 boards 1.4 blks
    05-06: 20.0 pts 9.4 boards 1.8 blks

In matchups between the Rockets and Heat in the last 2 seasons Yao has also dominated...

    Nov 12, 2006: http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/boxscore?gameId=261112014
Rockets win 94-72. Yao has 34 and 14. Shaq has 15 and 10.

    Feb 21, 2007:
    http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/boxscore?gameId=270221010
Rockets win 112-102 Yao DNP with injury Shaq has 20 and 16 on ancient Dikembe, who puts up 5 pts and 13 boards himself on Shaq.

    Nov 10, 2005:
    http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/boxscore?gameId=251110014
Heat win 88-84 Yao gets 24 and 14 Shaq DNP

    Jan 29, 2006:
    http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/boxscore?gameId=260129010
Heat win 101-95 Yao DNP Shaq gets 24 and 14 on Deke

    so to summarize:

Season Stats over the last 2 years:
    Yao: 23.6 pts 9.8 boards 1.8 blks
    Shaq: 18.7 pts 8.4 boards 1.6 blks

I believe Yao gets the check-mark in every category

wtf? who would argue that shaq has lost 5 steps since his prime? Shaq has even commented on this. he doesn't play big minutes anymore. the days of 29 ppg and 12 boards are long gone..

what does this have to do with mcgrady and ming choking all the time?

Shaq's numbers in his prime (mostly playoffs) are SICK.. Yao Ming can't hold the big fella's jock.........

Shaq is still very effective but he's way past being the #1 option.

just because iverson had better numbers than jordan late in MJ's career does it make iverson a better player, leader or teammate?

Shaq helped his team win a championship within the two years you were comparing. Yao might have the regular season stat advantage but Shaq and his team won when it counted.

So when Yao wins a playoff series then come tell me how much better than Shaq is.

I grew up as a huge Celtics fan, and have been since. It's been a LONG time since the Celts were anything other than a bad joke. Sure, they got to the finals a few years ago, but had no business being there and we all knew it was a flash in the pan.

The Celtics are mortgaging their future to make a run, and I'm thrilled. Much like my Fins, they're notorious for wasting draft picks anyway. I guess this trade comes down to Garnett for Jefferson and a hope and a prayer in the draft. That's quite a haul.

I'll believe this trade has happened when I see it. From Bias, to Reggie Lewis, to the Duncan lotto, and even DJ's recent death, it's sucked to be a Celtics fan. I hope like hell this changes that.
You're right about Doc Rivers being horrible, but there's simply no way the Heat are better than the Celtics with those three guys. Unless, of course, some mob bookies like the Heat better, then I guess they might be.

Yao the most overrated player in the history of the league?? You can't be serious. He's still developing, and is currently one of the top 3 or so centers in the league. That's not exactly overrated. And lest we not forget the problems that the Mighty Shaq had in his early days with using his size, especially in the playoffs. And Shaq had at least played American basketball for a while. Yao has shown consistent improvement, and that would have been faster without Red China thinking their national team is of any importance.

And I don't think anybody is arguing the careers of Yao v. Shaq. That's just silly.

oh, yeah. i am totally not saying Yao's legacy is greater than Shaq's. I'm not an idiot. lol

I just hate when the talking heads on tv still say he is the best center in the NBA, because he isn't.

Dwight Howard, Stoudamire, and Yao are all worlds better.

Spoken like true Houston Rocket fans..

Yao is mentally weak. You know it, I know it!! He'll never lead a team to a title.

Shaq is the last true center this league has seen. Although Dwight Howard seems to be the next coming...
