Ahh wait a minute he said concussions not head crushings. You can fix a skull or a face these days, can't fix a brain.
Yeah seriously, put a leather cap on em and see how often they lead with the head. It will do wonders for the re-emergence of the form tackle. When you take the hard hat off they will stop using the head as a weapon. Guaranteed.
Well, yeah. But you have to balance that with the more numerous head injuries prevented. The kind that occur on every play.
I played rugby for 20 plus years with only one known concussion and that came when I misjudged this really fast small dude catching a knee to the temple. The worst part about it was it was in a 7's match which aren't near as physical as 15's. I didn't see very many head injuries or serious injuries for that matter because you have to know how to tackle. The difference in football is the blocking which has the constant head banging so the leather wouldn't help much. Ahh rugby, now there is a real mans sport. Some of the best dudes you will meet and look the hell out after its over. The beer WILL flow!
The camaraderie is very similar to the military. I have played all over the US and in the UK and keep in touch with a bunch of them. We played an English team in Daytona and about half the team crashed at my house. They were still drinking when I went to work the next morning and when I got back they had cleaned up (by dude standards) left me a 20 to replace my beer and their addresses to come and stay in London anytime. Great bunch of blokes!
I used to know some rugby players and they were a lot more into beer than spliffs. Now the guys who played frisbee football were a different breed.
