I like the 6 team plan G Danielson discussed at the SECCG. The top 2 conference champions get a bye, while the rest of the teams match up according to seeding. Gets over the "non-conference champion" problem--they can still get in, but they have to play the extra game. I would add, that in the first round games be played at home sites, and conference champions would get preference for home games.

So, This year, that would mean LSU & Ok State have a bye. #4 Stunford would play at @#5 Oregon, who has the home game due to winning the PAC12. #6 Arkansas would play at #2 Alabama, who would only get a home game because 3 non-champions would get into the tournament. Like the NFL, the next round would be reseeded, so LSU would play the lower seeded team remaining after the first week, meaning they would not play Alabama until the championship round. This round would be at major bowl sites near the teams that earned the bye. Assuming the favorites win, that means LSU would play Stanford in the Superdome and OkSt would play Alabama in JerryWorld. Winners would play the NCAA National Championship game in Pasadena.

It is interesting that both of the first round games would be rematches under this scenario. I would also like to see more transparency in the computer rankings if this were to happen.

Back to the original topic, I guess it would be impudent of me to point out that two of Alabama's championships in the 70s were split titles where they lost to the team they shared the title with (ND in 73 & SC in 78).

I eagerly await the meltdown among the Gumps on Jan 10.

If LSU was the AP Champ following a loss in the BCS game and you trumpet a National Championship for LSU, you would be a Hypocrite with a capital H.

I consider the current college football system a hypocrite with a capital H.
I don't care, call me whatever you want. I am against anything other than a playoff where the conference champions play each other. No more questions about Okie state not playing in the title game. No more shared titles like in 03 or this year if Bama did win. I don't call that hypocritical at all.
I call that intelligence, I have always favored a playoff system and for that I am not a hypocrite.

Keep in mind I can claim anything but it doesn't matter. Its not up to me, I didn't sign or agree to any of this. If the AP does it again like in 03 you still have a flawed system with a team not winning their championship game or conference in the championship game and possibly winning a title or splitting a title with a team that went undefeated through their championship game and winning their conference. I call that flawed and stupid.

Edit: Oh, it has nothing to do with me or us fans. If it was up to me there would be a playoff system in place.
You should go talk to the coaches and team and ask them if the AP awards a trophy would they accept it? CLM's and these players weren't here back then. Maybe they would turn it down, I don't know!

The reason being a conference champion is NOT a requirement to appear in the BCS title game is because conferences do not all decide their champion the same way. If everyone had a championship game for their conference for example, the BCS would likely institute that rule. However, you have the Big 12 this year unable to have a CCG which is a big reason why being a conference champ hasn't been made a requirement.

The Ala fans were absolutely attacking Gary Danielson - it was crazy!

For those of you who say conference championships don't matter, then why have them at all? What is their purpose? I believe the two best teams are playing in the BCSNG, but by Ala being there, it nullifies any significance to the victory for LSU at Ala on Nov 5th and for LSU having won the SEC. It feels like LSU has earned their way and Ala has not.

And when the discussion of split national championship came up on Finebaum, the ala fans went crazy! Danielson got ripped over that one too. So when I saw Thorny's post about ND in '73 and USC in '78, I looked it up. Found this post from 2008 -

Alabama’s 12 National Championships Debunked « Spitting Fire.

Quite enlightening! Cant wait to see how bama fans respond to this one.

If we lose on Jan 9th, I do not think LSU would claim that NC, even if the AP poll voted LSU #1, but I bet bama would if the rolls were reversed. How could they not without eliminating some of the previous claims to NC's?

But still no real champ here

What it seems is people want their team to lose a couple of games and in a playoff have the ability to win all of the play off games and still be the Champs , .In this play off one and #2 are not proven , because they wil not play the other teams . It is not fair , if my team feels bad and loses 2 games , I know they are better than your team . Would still be a reason to say not a true champ. It would to be fair have to be like the march to Maddness ,like in basketball I am not for that . In what you say you are for , all we would do is shift the power from one set of people to another group so they can say , "Now we have the Champ" It would still be a money game

Not really. You're vastly underestimating bama's influence in the media.

LSU isn't just playing bama .... you're also playing the Officials. :dis:

    good luck .....

You don't think we get the AP vote if we lose a close one?

They do seem to have their tentacles everywhere. Funny how ESPN never bothered to mention that their BCS "expert" was a Bama grad, even while Edwards had Bama constantly projected higher than LSU leading up to the 11/5 game, and turned out to be wrong every time. And especially after they had him shilling for Bama, giving them a 90% probability of making the title game a full week before Okie State even played their final game.

Danielson's spinning his wheels if he thinks a split NC will happen. The AP would give it to Bama.
