With next year being billed as one of the best ever in the state it would suck if we could not sign a full class.
So we have to lose 13 to 16 if my count is correct.:bncry: We had a lot more seniors graduating last year.
....so much for Jarrett Lee...I still have a lot of respect for that kid. 13 see you laters...are we turning into Bama? We could really help out some Louisiana teams if that's true.
I saw a breakdown of the numbers about a month ago from a guy on another board and he is usually dead on and he said we would have to lose 6 or 7 to get to 25 which is not uncommon. Some will be taken off scholarship, etc... The staff always finds away to make the numbers work and next year won't be any different. Hell, we could have the #1 class with 20 commits. But I expect at least 22...
I feel like its going to be a little different this year and thats partly because we had a full class of 25 who qualified and reported last year. I've always looked at this number but this year we have more of an issue then we've had in the past. I counted 7 or 8 a couple weeks ago, the guy you said counted 6 or 7. So lets say its 7 but you now have to add 2 who signed with this years class but back counted. That brings the number to 9. So out of our 27 (only 25 can report) signee's and the players we currently have on the roster we need to trim a total of 11. It can be any combination of signee's or current roster players but this year will be a bigger year for attrition than before. Everyone always points at Saban for being ruthless and cutting scholarships for under performing players. I think we will be doing it this year. Its just the name of the game folks.
I think you are right and we have more to cut this year. You can only get rid of so many though because in some cases the players may be very good and you may not be certain you can do any better with new recruits. I think Miles will do what is needed to keep us competitive in the cutthroat SEC environment. I just think Miles will manage to do it with a lot more class and compassion than Saban and will err on the side of retaining anyone that may pan out.
We only enrolled 24 last year because Ainsworth left the team. We still have a lot of unanswered questions. Everyone qualifying like last year is rare. I think we lost 6 to attrition last season and that is about the average over the last few years.
If we continue having this "problem" of making the 85 for several years in a row, how does that affect the decision of who redshirts next year? Could more or less redshirts this year even have an impact on making the 85 further down the road? I bet we don't take any junior college guys for a while...or maybe it's better to take more because they're gone sooner.
The way the 2011 Class is shaping up, the 2011 Class could be a top 5 class. We already have four 4 star Commitments out of 7. The other 3 Commitments are 3 stars. !twocrystals!
