Hello Tiger Fans...Congratulations on the win!! I was surprised to see some negative comments about the Tigers by some of your members here because of some apparent expectations of LSU blowing out a team that had lost 14 straight. The analysis of UW competitiveness should go little deeper than the record and even injuries. I could bore you all with some details describing Ty Willingham's poor team management skills but the one thing Ty did do well is recruit, especially in the last two years. Combine that talent with Steve, Nick and the rest of the new Husky staff's enthusiasm, intensity and accessibility and you have an expectation by Husky Nation that the Dawgs would compete well enough with LSU to gain some respect. We didn't expect a win, we did expect a competitive and entertaining game. All that intensity and enthusiasm you saw on the Husky sideline last night? That was a pretty uncommon thing to see for the last five years... I for one was very impressed with the speed, strength, and talent of LSU and I do love to watch a lot of CF. I agree with some mitigating comments on this site ie the inexperience of your QB, the adjustments necessary regarding your new DC, the vanilla play calls against a non conf opponent, and the travel and jet lag issues (a weak one there -- your team arrived on Thursday). Add to that you actually did IHMO play a pretty competitive team Saturday night. I am sure LSU will do very well although I have not yet seen any SEC games from this weekend (I will be watching the Alabama replay tomorrow). I have watched Cal and USC this weekend and for what it's worth this early on I think LSU looked at least comparable. (I have watched the UW/LSU game live and the broadcast twice -- once again I think LSU is very impressive.) I expect that you Tiger fans will eventually be very happy to have beaten the Huskies if you need some strength of schedule help down the road......:yelwink2: Go Huskies!!
LOL i think some of us had flash backs. UW is a good team. I guess you can consider LSU a new team as well. These are Miles players and hes coaches now and they are putting in a lot of new things... I was pretty happy with LSU and thought we were just a few missed tackles away from making the big stop. It will come. But much respect for UW. Very good team..
McDawg, here was the real Washington advantage and you probably know it better than I. Your University is on the quarter system and doesn't start classes until Sept. 30, therefore your coaches have not been restricted by the 20 hour rule like ours. That's why the W offense was way ahead of our defense and the W defense way ahead of our offense. LSU has been in class a week and a half. Locker said he feels like he's in the Pros. If I'm not mistaken you have that advantage over your first four opponents. I'm sure UW didn't set up their system to accomodate their Football team, but the NCAA needs to fix that rule. Yeah, really. I believe the W coaches have that advantage over their first 4 opponents.
You know, Husky fan, before the game a lot of us were predicting a huge blowout for LSU based on two things: Washington's record last year. Our traditional opinions regarding the overall strength of the SEC vs. the Pac 10. More than one Husky poster tried to warn us by predicting an LSU win, but by a much closer margin because of either their own optimism or their own knowledge of the strength of the Washington team. Turns out they were right for whichever reason. I imagine a lot of "gaming" UW fans may have made some change on the game (I'm not sure what the spread was). Most of us had our opinions colored by the fact that, last year, we underperformed even in the face of expelling the starting QB from the team. (You can probably relate to that fact yourself.) And so we really, really wanted to see a blowout as a sign that "the Tigers are back where they belong and will contend for the national championship this year. This is why most of us were disappointed in the win. Instead of a lack of respect for your team, I think we have a new found respect for your team...and, by extension, maybe even the PAC 10 (a little...wink, wink) I hope this puts the disappointment in a better context and perspective. Either way you look at it, it was an exciting game for both Purple and Gold teams..
McDawg, I'm glad to finally see the UW program on the rise. People may complain about Willingham, but he brought talent back into the program that did not literally include rapists and murderers. You no longer have players like Jeremiah Pharms, Curtis Williams, Jeremy Stevens, etc. on your team. Neuheisel destroyed the UW program and assisted in destroying the University of Colorado program with the help of Bill McCartney and Gary Barnett. (I can't think of another program that had the worst 3 consecutive coaching choices than the CU Buffaloes.) Revel in the ascendancy you will be witness to.
McDawg, Great post, following a real good season opening college football game! Most Husky fans who have visited this  Tiger site have been pure class. You have been realistic and good sports. This is probably not the biggest LSU board, but we think its the BEST one. There are not too many trash talking teens on here. This is an established board with a hard core fan base. We like to talk all college football, so come back anytime. We'd be interested in your observations before and after the USC game, see what you think of both LSU and USC. We have a few USC posters, uscvball and HectorSpector, and they add a lot to our board when they post. I'm surprised they haven't posted about our game with the Huskies. We made a few friends from Ohio St. a couple years ago and they drop in when there are interesting intersectional games. This was our defense's first game under our new DC. Normally, there is room for improvement after you see what the kids "thought" they knew, that they really didn't know. It will be interesting to see if the unit can learn and get more effective. We didn't get much pressure on your QB. Congratulations on a solid first game, I like your coaching staff!
Actually dudley, we only had that advantage over you. If I'm not mistaken, the 20 hour rule goes into effect once you've played a game period. About the only way around that could be to schedule a week 1 bye.
According to the ESPN crew, the 20 hour rule only goes into effect once school starts so that gives them a good month. Regardless, I only give so much credence to that. The dawgs were amped up with a new coach and a new life and were ready to put last year's losing season to bed. LSU was clearly not as motivated and played as vanilla a scheme as I've ever witnessed as an LSU fan, partly which was to bring along a young quarterback that they didn't want to back into a corner by getting behind in a big game on the road. They won convincingly and the score doesn't reflect the game because of a garbage touchdown in the end when the game was already decided. The Huskies have a lot to be excited about and I think will do well in the PAC 10 this year and in the coming years. I also think LSU will unleash Hell with all of their playmakers as the year rolls on and the Huskies will realize that LSU could have done a lot more damage had the coaches really wanted to.
McDawg, thanks for the kudo's and heres to much success for Huskies. I think after tempers cooled off many of us realize exactly your sentiments. As some of us have stated come a couple of weeks into the season we will see even more that UW is a much better team than we expected.
