Red, I went to that bowl game. It was the Orange Bowl and we lost a pretty hard fought game to Nebraska. Most people don't remember but there were race riots in Miami that year...something about police brutality or something. I think someone was killed during an arrest. The center of the riots was a part of town called Overton...right where the Orange Bowl Stadium was.

The funny thing was that there was national press all around looking for some big racial story and there was none. It was almost like the rioters had absolutely no beef with the football fans because the riots were almost put on hold for the game. I went down there with a lot of tickets that people had bought and asked me to sell for them outside the stadium. I couldn't even sell them for $1.00 and buy a beer with a few of them...so I went to the barricades the police set up between the neighborhood and the stadium and began to give away tickets to poor kids if they'd go home and bring their parents back so I could give them as many tickets as they needed, but their parents had to go to the game with us and cheer for LSU. I think I brought 20 or so people with me to the game from about 4 or 5 families. We all sat together and had a great time...they did pull for LSU too. While kids were going home to get one of their parents, aunts or uncles I was interviewed by a pretty Latin Lady who ended up being a reporter for the Miami Herald. As I recall, the whole scene I just related was part of the article and my quotes were on the front page.

I forgot all about that until your post reminded me of it.

Red, that was my sophomore year. so if you have a yearbook, you can see a picture of me with long hair...I used to have hair back then. look me up... Steve Herbert.

Fritzz, do you remember LSU Wyoming in the sugar bowl? Doug Moreau, Sammy Grezaffi, etc? I think it was 1968.

Yes, I do. 5th Ranked Wyoming vs unranked LSU - 20-13 win for the Tigers of LSU. They scored first 13 and we answered with 20.

Getting drenched for 5 hours, seeing JaMarcus get his first action, Randall scoring the game winning TD and Alexis Serna missing the final extra point to secure the home-opener vs. Oregon State in 2004.

    -and-

Alley B setting the single-game rushing record vs. Ole Miss.

    Everything else was a blur....

    Geaux Class of 1987!!!!!!!

My first game as an  student. Sat in the student section (of course), got in by just showing my brand new still shiny LSU! ID, had a plastic flask of Jack in my pocket and was in the picture of the crowd that was on the front page of the Reveille the next Monday.

Hadn't thought about that in years. Thanks Hatcher.

Speaking of registration in 1969 - do you remember we had computer punch cards for each class? I wonder how many people on the forum used those?

I was in TGBFT that year as well -

Do you remember that the airline lost all the instruments between Miami and Oakland - we practiced in the parking lot without horns - Swor made us sing our parts. We were much better with horns. I have very limited memory of doing the show that day - remember the day we performed it in Birmingham much more clearly - that was the performance that won the award! And we beat Bama that day, too.

Bunch of sleep-deprived folks on the field that day!

Barely remember walking around in SF - Chinatown, lunch at Fisherman's Wharf......Gosh, I wish I had taken pictures on that trip!

I started at LSU in Sept. 1969, my most vivid memory is still my first game at Tiger Stadium. LSU 35, Texas A&M 6 (My Dad's Alma Mater). I had never seen an LSU game until that one. Performing "PreGame" for the first time was an unbelieveable thrill - the crowd response nearly drowned us out!

Not my freshman year, but I remember the year Archie Manning played in a cast....and we won something like 61-17.

    1988, the Earthquake Game.

A couple of memories about that one: I had a date that night for the second quarter with a guy. He had a date with five different girls that night, one for each quarter and halftime. Pig...

Before the 4th down TD was scored, some guy next to me said he was going to throw me down and make love to me if we scored. He actually only kissed me. I never saw him again.
