This probably means that Crowton is in fact staying for next year. Looks like they're filling holes here. opcorn:. Maybe a QB coach next?
This maybe a possibility. New RB coach, new WR coach, new QB coach, hopefully a new OL coach: with all of that Miles can hide Crowtons deficiencies.
On TD.com, Belowpar(which is a LSU insider and never wrong) said LSU was talking to Louisville HC they just fired. Hes got a lot of OC experience and hes known as a pretty decent QB coach too. Crowton is likely on his way out.
Hmmmm...maybe..maybe not. I wouldn't think that they'd hire a bunch of assistants without the successor's input. Maybe Miles has picked this guy and has his input on the new hires. Pretty smart. It gives Miles another year to find a job for Crowton and then promote seamlessly from within next year. Not having a knee jerk reaction by caving in to critics and firing Crowton now is a good thing. It makes it more likely to attract quality assistants...and that, my friends, is a real key to success.:miles:. Most of these new guys are probably real good at managing "end of game time clock opportunities".:hihi:
Well, belowpar said hes pretty sure Tyke Tolbert is a done deal as WR coach. That is a outstanding hire for Miles, IMO. Former LSU player, tons of NFL experience(hes coached some good WRs) and he was a good recruiter in college. Absolute perfect hire for LSU. Kragthorpe...I'm not sold on. I'm looking at his history and he seems like Crowton #2 to me. His teams have actually improved when hes left(Tulsa) and he regressed Louisville, even when he took over offensive playcalling this past year there. I don't buy the talent argument. Kragthorpe is a solid QB coach though...and we desperately need one on our staff. So, it might be a hire where Miles sees value outside of just his OC ability. We don't have a extra assistant slot for a QB coach...so its probably going to have to be done by the OC. IMO, we need to swallow a bullet somewhere and get a dedicated QB coach. If Stud is gone too, I can't see Miles hiring anything but a OL coach. OL/DL are the most vital parts of the team with QB. You have to have dedicated coaches for those three positions, IMO. Hiring a established OC with QB coaching ability(Jimbo Fisher was one) is probably what LSU has to do now. As for Wilson, I knew his rep in LA would help us huge but I'm still not sold on his recruiting ability outside of LA and his coaching abilities. Hes going to have to prove his coaching to me. I hope he turns out to be a great hire. Far as his recruiting goes...he might not ever have to recruit out of LA. If he can lock it down...who cares?
Maybe Wilson will take on in state recruiting and Tolbert will be the out of state guy then? (but if he's from Louisiana, he can't let the national recruits know that his name is pronounced "Toll Bear")
I don't know, we'll see. Tolbert has been out of the recruiting game for awhile now. If LSU did hire him...for gods sake please put him on Davis soon...I think Davis would have to be excited about him being the WR coach.
I heard about a week ago that Tyke Tolbert was interviewed by LSU and if Belowpar is right he is just finished his 2nd interview. I am hearing it is a done deal but won't be announced or papers signed until after the last Bills game which is on Jan 2nd or 3rd. Which works out great because we will be finished with the bowl game too. He has been the WRs coach at he Bills for 6 years now. He was also the recruiting coordinator under Zook at UF. They brought in the #1 class that year and the headliner of the class was Chris Leak. He also has big ties to Texas which naturally makes since for us combined with our decline in recruiting Florida of late.
Like I said...hes the perfect hire. And the best thing about him? He bleeds P&G being a former player.
:geaux: Sounds like a great hire for LSU.:thumb: Hopefully Tolbert will not only be able to keep Davis in the fold but Hunter as well. If in fact "the deal is done" although no papers have been signed, etc., can he legally contact any recruits for LSU? :LSU231:
