fuitak is associated with college football news. (a good website) he wrote another article giving 10 reason why LSU will bring home the :crystal:
Here is the best line from the article: It will only be a classic if LSU doesn't play well. Hmm. I'm thinking Miles will have them prepared (like the last 2 LSU bowl games). So, is it uh-oh time for OSU?
That sums up what I came to realize as the season went on... when LSU was healthy and/or played well, they blew teams away. When LSU played poorly and/or had injuries to key personnel, the games were close, but LSU won most of those games anyway. So Ohio State will either get blown out, or lose a nail-biter - either way, it'll sting.
No, the best line from the article was: "Ohio State ... was the nation's No. 1 team for a good portion of the season ... it's in the top spot right now. The team really is that good." The line you quoted from the article was a not a very thoughtful statement by the author, IMO. You can't just say that if "LSU shows up" it will be a blow-out. Look at the Florida game this year. You don't think "LSU showed up" for that game? Ohio State is a good as Florida. Like the author said, they are #1 because they really are that good. That's how you get to be voted #1. Virginia Tech, talent-wise, is a step below teams like Florida, Tennessee, and Ohio State. And "LSU showing up" was only part of the reason we blew out VT, the other huge part is that VT didn't show up, just like they didn't show up in their first game of the season before that. A lot of people attributed it to the emotional fallout they took from the bloody massacre where dozens were brutally murdered on their campus at point-blank range. Sure, there is always a chance LSU will blow out OSU and there is always a chance OSU will blow out LSU. But if either teams blows out the other team, I will be shocked. I expect both teams to "show up," and I expect Ohio State to have the mental advantage. Fortunately, we are a very physical team as well, so we should be able to beat back the onslaught they are going to lay on us.
If we show up, we will show up in offense, defense and special teams. It happened last year when Florida played to their talent potential and dominated Ohio State. We have one of the most talented teams in college football and we played like that in the first 3 games of the season. Both teams will show up, but we have proven that when we show up we destroy teams. You could say VT didn't show up, but good teams with good coaches don't just "not show up" at games. We forced those turnovers and we got into their faces and shut them down. Last year OSU was a juggernaut but UF got into their faces and forced them into a bad game. LSU didn't show up til late in the Florida game. We were down what, 17-7 at half? It was far from a perfect game but we made enough plays in the 4th quarter to win that.
UF certainly showed up. You really believe OSU did? says who? Happens all the time, unless you didn't watch this season. As far as VT, I'd hardly say they showed up the week before against East Carolina, or North Carolina. They thrive on good defense and special teams. Their offense is usually a bit average, and their QB & RB personnel was definitely lacking this year. Let me make it clear, I don't wish to downgrade that performance. It was remarkable. I was just combating this idea that these two marquee SEC beatdowns were simply the result of SEC strength trumping all else.
