3 game sample space, 2 being SEC foes, 2 road games, so this is legit throw in the 2 big runs that were called back and he's averaging exactly 10 yards per carry who knows what he would have done vs McNeese
That's crazy, so is his 210 yards per game. No way he sustains that, but if he could, he would break Alexander's single-season record early in the 9th game.
If not for stupid penalties he would have been over 350 and an avg over 12. Breaking the avg per carry record two weeks in a row while also smashing the LSU single game yards record.
He's focused and relaxed. He's seeing the holes so efficiently. Given the mixed schedule of tough competition and some cupcakes, I could see him maintaining this pace. Just needs to avoid the injury bug.
Eastern Michigan knows. I can't imagine what their strategy to stop him might be. Their best opportunity will be if Fournette gets 150 in the first quarter and goes to the bench removing his shoulder pads to watch the Williams and Guice show in front of the fan.
That is the only part of his running game that Fournette didn't arrive with last year. In high school he just ran around or over defensive linemen. That didn't happen in Division I football. He had to learn to let the big uglies make a hole and to hesitate that split second to wait for the block. It took him half a season to learn how blocking schemes work. But when it happened, we could all see the results. Now he needs to develop the rest of his game. He must pick up the blitzing linebacker. He must block for another back or a reversing receiver. He must go out for passes and get open. He has most of two seasons to get ready for the NFL where they will pay very much for the whole package. He should consider maybe not laying the wood when he doesn't really have to, like at the end of that long busted play run. He could have cut back, maybe gained another five or six yards and been leg tackled instead of lowering his shoulder at the guy. Preserving your body is a key part of having a long NFL career at running back. His reputation is such now that every defensive back and linebacker in the SEC wants to make his name as the guy who stopped Fournette cold. That is going to happen from time to time and Fournette risks injury every time it happens.
His vision is as scary a plus as his ability to run over, through and around people. Paradise said it perfectly, he's focused and relaxed. Mark Ingram should take note for the Saints. He gets way too over hyped when he gets in a good run. Then he wants to just blast through a hole that isn't there on the next play and gets stuffed. Fournette is just cool, calm, collected and calculating. And he apparently doesn't need to ever rehydrate, lol.
Fournette is simply amazing to watch. LSU has had plenty of good backs, but Fournette is completely in a class by himself; he truly is the once-in-a-generation talent that is placing his name among the likes of Herschel Walker and Bo Jackson. It's almost like watching a dream season unfold for him, where the Heisman voters will be so willing to cast a vote, not only for an incredible RB, but also for a quality young man. Right down to his awesome tweet paying homage to the great Syracuse RBs of the past. How can people not love him?
For 40 years I have been waiting for an LSU power back with the speed and situational awareness that Charles Alexander had. Faulk and Hilliard were fast and shifty but weren't going to run over anybody. But Fournette has the whole package and it is too bad he will not play four years.
