big time high school sports is a travesty. i would have loved to play 5 or 6 but stuck with one because of the time commitment the coaches/system require. they should scrap much of the travel, and shorten the seasons (not playing season, but the months of practice before). i hope my son goes to a very small school just so he can easily participate in numerous activities if he wishes.
Exactly, great players are made in the off season. Such a cliche but there's much to be said about it. I bet most don't realize how many college baseball players play on travel teams in the summer, for example.
True, but Two a Days in the South Louisiana heat absolutely SUCKED. hated evry minute of 'em when they were happening, but talking to my neighbor's son (soph in HS) talking about spring drills a couple weeks ago, made me really miss those days.
I'll never miss that. Still remember riding my bike in the morning with my shoulder pad in helmet and hooked to my handle bars. AND THE DEW on the grass... It was nice when the cheerleaders were practicing at the same time, when it did happen. :hihi:
Never thought I would miss it (practicing) either, but sometimes, I just wish I was still playing. I'd give up a LOT of what I have now (excluding wife and kids) just to be able to strap 'em on and go at it again, even if it was just practice.
Getting bored making your boys put on the ones they got for Christmas and knocking them around the yard eh? :hihi:
you talk about not missing it, try being a freshman basketball player making the varsity team and play 4 games a week plus practice. Playing in the freshman games twice a week, 1 Junior varsity game and 2 Varsity games, then having to practice with each team. after that AAU basketball and highschool baseball, then summertime football workouts and swimming. It sucked, but as i look back (like I am so old) and I love every minute of it.
