Former LSU star Ryan Clark said he will retire after 13 NFL seasons Former LSU safety Ryan Clark announced on ESPN Wednesday he will retired after 13 seasons in the NFL with three different teams. He will join the network as an analyst, he said. Clark, a native of Marrero and graduate of Shaw high School, started 36 consecutive games at LSU and helped the Tigers to the 2001 SEC title in his senior season. Undrafted, he signed a free agent deal with the New York Giants and two years later went to Washington for two seasons. He spent eight seasons (2006-13) with the Pittsburgh Steelers, with whom he was named to the Pro Bowl (2011) and won a Super Bowl. Heavily involved with community work, Clark received the NFL's Ed Block Courage Award in 2008.In 2007 while playing in Denver, Clark was diagnosed with a splenic infarction due to the sickle cell trait, a condition he suffered since childhood, which was triggered by Denver's high altitude. He had his spleen and gall baldder removed but returned to the Steelers the following season.
Dude is awesome. As a person as well as football player. Will be the head of the NFLPA in the not too distant future.
Ryan Clark is one of my alltime favorite former Tiger players in the NFL. He wasn't just good, he was great!!!!!!! He covered Troy P's ass on hundreds of plays when the Polynessian left his responsibility and he had to cover damn near the entire field. He never got the proper credit for his tremendous acumen on the field.
