Former Florida Safety John Curtis, 24, Reportedly Commits Suicide -- NCAAFB FanHouse Former Florida safety John Curtis reportedly has committed suicide at age 24, according to the sports website www.onlygators.com. Many former Gators and friends of Curtis have tweeted their respects. One player who took to twitter right away was Cleveland Browns rookie cornerback, Joe Haden. Haden, the No. 7 pick in this year's NFL draft who played with Curtis at Florida, tweeted, "U never know how much u truly love someone until they r gone!! R.I.P John Curtis #24! U will be missed!!!!" Curtis was a special teams specialist during his time in Gainesville. He played on the Gators' scout team in 2004, sat out 2005 with a knee injury, but was able to play for the team during their 2006 national championship season. He saw action on kickoff return and punt teams in their title run. In 2007, he blocked a punt against South Carolina but tore his ACL in 2008 that eventually ended his football career.
