Karate helps in many aspects, like flexibilty, agility, power, endurance, concentration, and speed. I can see it being helpful in both, as it's a great way to get your body and mind in shape. Remember when Satan was coaching our d linemen were men among boys. I wouldn't oppose our players being trained in karate, as it especially helps with hand eye coordination and effectivly using your hands in "combat" in the trenches. hope that helps
Thanks. So, I wonder if Miles should restart those classes? (if they hadn't had those since Satan left) I suppose that would help the team being more physical and beat up the opposing team.:hihi:
They might as well since the players probably have nothing else to do except stand around in the quad...
If you want linemen to do something outside the box to help in the trenches, then they should be in Judo classes, not karate. The best linemen I have come across have been those that were also wrestlers. Wrestling is all about balance and explosiveness, two key components to being a great DL. Judo is very, very similar to traditional wrestling.
I was trying to watch the line during the live broadcast of the Bama game because our lack of pressure has puzzled me. I did not see Bama consistently double the same guy. Seems like they rotated the double on everyone except Alem. My theories are sort of a combination of what has been posted.. 1. We have no beast that consistenty draws double teams. 2. Alem cannot beat his man like he did so much last year.
I think the issue is the personel. I trust the scheme chavis has. When I look at key players, I see them in position but some times come up short, mostly b/c of missed tac's. Look at the last TD bama got last week. Taylor was in position and even though he got pushed in the back, he still put his hands on Jones. Just came up a little short. I also think its more of the guys not fully understanding the scheme of chavis, but that will come. We have a top 20 D. Things arent that bad. I just think as far as the DL, they just arent as good as past years..
Letting them play on the Oline in practice can be of help too. Let's them really know from first hand perspective, what will be effective by letting them experience it.
