The guy who preceded our current coach and dragged the program down is an important factor in where we are as a program. You don't fire a guy and get a fresh slate.

No you're just having a hard time seeing the difference in the resumes. It's night and day and matters greatly. Because it's a big part in what you use when hiring a coach. And comparing them amongst peers.
He was definitely hired on potential, not because of his stellar coaching record. It didn't hurt that he transformed Miles' team into a mostly competent offense. A mid-major coach would have been a risk and dumping a ton of money into Fisher would've also been a risk.
he was hired on hopes, dreams, ability to make a roux. hiring any new coach is a risk. Hiring a guy like Fisher with a track record of successful offenses and Conerence and national titles is a risk. Hiring an up and comer who has shown potential to be great is a risk. Hiring a guy with O’s track record is a RISK.
