I guess I am just disappointed. I thought we had a better team than we have. Nice boys all around & the team is trying. But the talent level, experience level & coaching acumen is not elite. At least not this year. We miss Nick, always will. Kick in the teeth that he went to Alabama & out recruits us. But I will always luv dem tigahs & support the team & coaches that we do have. Having said this, I will be happy for any SEC win that we do have.
Great thread. I can't believe we already have a thread ready to buy out O. Let me start by saying that I'm not at all sold on O being the answer. As much as I'd love to see a fellow SL grad do well and become an iconic coach at LSU, I'm not sure he has what it takes. All that being said, let's be honest, Spears is dead on. LSU has not, nor is an elite school right now. The talent is lacking, that's evident. Outside of Guice and Key, this team lacks the superstars we've had in recent years. The DL is missing a Dorsey, Williams, Lavalais, or Nevis. At CB we don't have a Mathieu, Peterson, Webster, or Claiborne. At S we don't have a Adams, Landry, Steltz, or Reid. At WR Chark is solid, but he is number two or three. There is no OBJ or Landry, not even a Bowe, Lafell, or Doucet. The OL has no Withworth, Collins, Pocic, or even a solid college OLman outside of Clapp. Add to that Miles missed out on the last few years at bringing in the depth that we normally have. We have not done a good job ov coaching up through the years so that players are ready for their turn. The culture of winning is gone. LSU does not believe they are elite anymore, it's not in the mind set. I think this year is a big slap in the face to the reality of where LSU football is. This may take 2-3 years of good recruiting classes and coaching up kids. Changing the mind set.
For all those not keeping track that think grass is greener somewhere else and with someone else. The two front runners and popular choices for LSU HC job are now 1-4 this season and "they" are not done losing yet. This deal going on in Baton Rouge started in New Orleans against Alabama, it's going to take time. In addition, recruiting services are as good as investment magazines, great to read nothing of substance. THere are 10-15 players every year that anyone could rate 5 stars and they could play anywhere for anyone and still get drafted in the first round. The rest, are a complete crap shoot subject to so many variables from coaching to injuries that will define their lives and careers. Best to support your team, there is only 1 school these days that can really just reload.
The thing we probably need to remember is that while we keep saying we need some time to recruit for our needs, if we continue to underperform, our recruiting will suffer even more. The whole end of the Miles era was handled poorly, and the ensuing coaching "search," was handled even worse. Alleva is an absolute joke, and he needs to go (should have been fired after his botched firing of Miles in '15.) I am concerned that O is going to drag us down to the 1990's LSU depths; we're already on that slippery slope and falling fast. How disgusting was it listening to those two bozos last night continue to harp on what Marcus Spears had said earlier in the week?
Well said about Alleva. The way he botched the whole firing of Miles at the of the '15 season is a big reason why we are where we are. You don't have it out there that this is a coach's last game, then bring him back. Miles should have been gone then, it would have been an emphatic move. Miles did enough to stay, by winning enough games, but the program was failing and slowly being eaten up in quicksand. I think it's evident that the program is nowhere near where it once was just 6 years ago. The '11 debacle was the beginning of the end.
The BCSNCG was awful, but Miles still could've turned it around if we'd held on to beat Bama in '12. That loss was the one that hurt us the most. Had we won that game, we'd have won the West, and we'd have gone on to beat that shitty, weak ND team that Bama feasted on, instead. But Miles lost his edge, clearly. He was getting his glorious send off at that A & M game; hell, I bought tickets and went to it. Then, Mr. No Balls Alleva backed out, only to fire Miles 4 games into last year, which set into motion having Orgeron get the job. Orgeron isn't going to make it, and it's becoming more and more clear. Just wait until we go Oeaux-fer in the SEC this year...
The media are a bunch of parrots. When they can't think of anything else to say they parrot the most recent pronouncement that stirs the pot. If Dumbass Joe had kept his mouth shut in 2015 and negotiated behind the scenes we would have opened the 2015 season with Jimbo Fisher as our coach. Woh is the AD at Georgia? The firing of Mark Richt and the hiring of Kirby Smart was done to perfection. No rumors, no nothing. Just You're fired, You're hired. Maybe our BOS should look into hiring him as AD.
Oeaux wont make it with fans like you Stacey. Oeaux is 9-3 so far and we all know what he inherited and we all know how thin, injured and young this team is at no fault of his. If fans like you pile on and destroy recruiting and moral than yes he may fail. I as a reasonable fan I see that O needs at least 2 full years to be judged. Disapointed in you Stacey.
