As of today (Feb 21, 2008), we already have 3 "commits", all apparently highly sought. Do we normally get early recruits? (I know USC does, among others) Is this a better than average start? How much credence should the proletariat (those of us who are new to this) give to this?
we usually get some early commits but this year our 3 guys so far are very highly rated although lsu always brings in high quality guys but not a 5* so soon(I think) past years early 4 stars though I don't know what orelus will be rated
This is actually a faster start than USC normally gets. I know in the past, it's not a strategy that PC was fond of and JoePa among others have said they feel it can and has hurt their program. However, it IS PC's strategy (like most coaches in target rich states) to lock down local talent and then go national for a handful of the 4 and 5*'s out there. What happened is that last year, Karl Dorell went after local guys early with a ton of success and despite his departure, ucla only lost 2 of that early group. With Chow joining the mix, it's clear that in SoCal, the early bird will get the worm. Big egos.
yea this was true last year and if you think UCLA had success last year had USC not jumped the gun again I believe that UCLA would have done even better than last year early on I think great move by CPC in order to continue his well documented recruting excellence at usc
Scanning the talent pool, it seems obvious as well that Cal and LA are stocked next year, so that is probably another reason to strike quick. Still, I wonder if LSU has done this in the recent past? Anyone give an example?
It all changes yearly as obviously some players want to commit at different times. Texas is really the only team that lets commits know they want them to commit this time of the year after they hold their junior day.
