Or we could lose to Moo U. Or Georgia. Or yes, we could end up ranked in the top 5 playing Florida. There are too many questions. I would love it to be the proposed situation... but I doubt it. I buy the "young and inexperienced" thing much more easily (though the wishful fan in me really likes type 1).
This is my school of thought. I think everyone agrees that we'll see some new wrinkles and the like.. and we'll be forced to throw down field. That's it -- everything else will stay the same.
If we're able to iron out some areas, I don't care if we win by 3 or 10 every game... as long as we win. Look at Bama last year. They weren't blowing people out, they were winning ugly as hell and in OT. We're young but good... we just need some polishing... if we can scrap it out and stay in games we can win them all and people will take notice quick and we could very well win some voters over. But we won't do it with our offense playing like this.
Blow outs especially early in the year can be an illusion. So no, I don't want to see blow outs... I want to see team ball. Right now LSU has no identity to their offense or defense UNTIL they do find an identity I would say the team is very suspect. They have another week to find it, let's see what happens... real season starts in two weeks.
Yes we have work to do as has been pointed out by several. I would say this, that blow outs against the cupcacks don't really indicate anything, take UF in point here. The team chemistry is the key, and this is still developing with the Tigers. Players knowing the tendancies of their fellow team mates. JJ and his recievers being in harmony, JJ trusting, as he did with the pitch out to KW, that his recievers will be where they are supposed to be. The OL knowing where and when CS or KW are going to hit the hole. Just a few examples of the chemistry that is a work in progress.
My opinion is that winners win, losers don't. If we win every game from here on out on a last second field goal to force octuple overtime which we win on a field goal that bounces off both uprights, I'll take it and be happy.
bingo. but i do believe its is progressing. maybe not as fast as some would like, and is in fact scaring the hell out of us, but it is progressing. will it progress enough to go against the ugas and flas of the world? we shall see. and as bad as we were last year, we were one of those teams. in all honestly, bama didnt so much win that game as it was handed to them gift wrapped. miles did get the team up and ready for that game. unfortunately, a few crucial "mistakes" was the difference in the game and what lost it for us. i think if they had won, the players mentality for the rest of the year may have been much different.
What ever plays they decide to run, I want them to run them efficiently. I don't care who we are playing. If we can't execute simple plays vs Vandy and ULL, where we have a huge talent advantage, I dougt we will execute vs the meat of the SEC schedule. I agree with the above posters, the idea of holding back makes no sense. I suppose we were holding back and not showing the defense, at this time last year, as well.
It also makes sense if Miles is prudent and cagey. Usually we open with three cupcakes to smooth off the rough edges. This year we opened with a BCS team (that later beat #3 USC) and a BCS bowl winner from the SEC. We beat ULL badly, but even they had been a winner over a BCS team and they played very hard. We didn't get the usual cupcakes to blow out. But I've seen steady progress and a lot of talent, if not much emotion and desire. But that's OK with me as long as we win. We've got four very big games to up for this year and we don't need to peak too soon. No, Les is not planning to barely win. But he's hardly the first coach to not reveal his whole playbook in the first 3 games if its not needed. Neither is he unique among coaches by starting out a bit conservative in breaking in a new defense and and a young QB. Are you kidding? We have to play some of the top defensive minds in college football in the SEC. Why give them video of our best plays to practice for? Trick plays and surprise offensive tactics are designed to exploit ignorance of their existence. This steady improvement suggests that the team will get better as the season goes on and certainly indicates that the coaches are working on their issues.
Sure they have an identity. We score an average of 28 points and they score an average of 11 points. Average margin of victory: 17 points. Here's another identity: Undefeated. Want another one? 7th ranked.
