You must have short memories. I admit he is not a great coach. His play calling is usually questionable, sometimes downright awful. But fans of every team always seem to be way too eager to get rid of the coach. They assume that getting rid of a coach will result in getting a new coach that is better. And why would anyone think that? History proves otherwise. Only once (DiNArdo ->Saban) in almost 3 decades has a coaching change resulted in a major improvement (McClendon -> Rein -> Stovall -> Arnsparger -> Archer -> Hallman -> DiNardo -> Saban -> Miles). So be thankful for what you have, becasue change rarely equals improvement. (The same thing goes for most teams, and for fans' obsession for backup QBs)
I think this is a good point. I myself realized recently that firing MIles isnt a good thing, also I think we lose sight of the fact the other team also has a great coaching staff, and D1 SEC level players, and a passionate fan base, and watches film and wants to win as much as we do. I get the sense that unless LSU wins the National Title every year our coach is terrible. Well sure he makes some bad moves from time to time, he wouldnt he is human like us. But i have said it 1000 times I cannot think of another coach in my life that loves being a part of the LSU family and our community. To me unless he starts going 6-5 every year, I say we enjoy the ride with our coach and our team. We will win some and lose some, we will get blown out again, and we will blow out a team we were underdogs. Its college football, people need to relax on the FIre Miles and Bring back JL threads. Its their right I guess but I think we as a fan base lose the forest through the tree's sometimes. Just my 2 cents.
The LSU fan base has become a bit spoiled, given the success of the program beginning in 2000. With two MNC's in the past 5 years, we expect to contend for the MNC every year. Nothing wrong with that, but we also have to learn to temper our expectations given team personnel. That said, it has been a fun and sometimes wild ride with CLM at the helm, and let's face it -- he knows how to win football games, and seems to thrive in the more pressure-packed scenarios. Look at his successful track record at LSU -- from the way he guided the team post-Katrina, to winning the MNC in 2007 despite two losses, to 4 blow-out Bowl victories. The jury is still out for 2009; however, 5-0 is a great start, and look at how we've won these games. Les seems to find a way to win... :geauxtige
People calling for Miles to be replaced at this point in his career at LSU should get in line for their lobotomy. Right behind drivers of red mini vans...
