Deuce has some points about it sticking in the back of their heads and negative recruiting will sway some guys. Hunter had a lot to do distance and McCarthy being sent packing as well as McCarthy not contacting him much after he committed. Davis was all Texas if they offered. Wright was all LSU from the start and really no contest on who he was going to go with at the end of the day. Probably played a factor with Reed especially the McCarthy debacle ended most hope. I wont get into Seastrunk. As for Jarvis, not really worried. He will leave a little doubt here and there to take some officials but he is also making arrangements with the LSU staff to enroll early as we speak.
2 and half years of inconsistent offense? We're heading to year 3... LSU was not good in offense in 2008, especially the second half of the season when we really saw a decline in the passing attack that hasn't recovered yet.
Well like I said...not arguing/disagreeing, just wondering who you were talking about. I can't disagree with Reed, but Davis was NEVER going to be at LSU if UT offered...and they did. I dunno, I look at the loaded skill positions and think THAT has more to do with it than the current state of the offense. - That said, if you can get a movement going by using this logic...and it is logical...then I'm behind you 100%. And I'm talking about a movement to get rid of Crowton.
I think the biggest issue is the "Miles will be fired" issue All these people screaming for his head creates a bigger challange. Miles can recruit, and his players love him and many (Shepard) went to LSU specifically because of him and I assure you many committed currently are going there because of Miles. In my opinion the MOST damaging thing is instability. Who am I going to play for. Miles is a great guy, and he appeals to young kids and their families. I dont want to rehash the "offense" and timeclock issues, there are 400 thread about that. But just like the Saban to the NFL days, everyone of those coaches are saying You dont want to go to LSU. How long is Miles going to be there, you want to go play for a coach who may not be there next year. That is the biggest risk I think we face - Instability at the top with everyone wanting to run Miles out on a rail.
Great point, and don't for a second think that Nick Saban, and Chizik, and Petrino, Meyer etc, aren't telling these recruits the same thing.
LSU carries its own weight, despite the negativity surrounding the program right now. LSU is one of the few schools who can do such a good job offsetting it. Simply from atmosphere, tradition, location and success. LSU isn't having trouble sending kids to the NFL, no matter what you think about Miles. I think we're in the top 3 or 5 with most active players? I would say LSU is a attractive location too. I've been on other college campuses and LSU really has one of the most beautiful campuses in the South. I think Austin is really the only one I've seen that is better. Plus, LSU is loaded with fine girls and LSU has always been a "party" school rep. We have no instate competition either, it is the premiere flagship university in the state for a athlete. LSU treats student athletes differently too, which is a huge bonus to these guys. What I'm saying is LSU can sell itself to a student athlete easily. Miles has it easy recruiting to LSU. Pretty much anyone would. Miles is a good recruiter, I'm not taking that away from him. I'm just saying even with negativity, LSU is a place that can sell itself. Which is not as common as one would think. Unfortunately, some of these guys aren't committed to the university itself and that is why many leave when coaches go elsewhere. It is the perceived instability mentioned in the above post. The positives outweigh the negatives in most of their minds. We'll be ok as long as the coaching staff doesn't get wiped out. I don't think any university can recover from a situation like that. We lose commits every year, as does every major university. So, it should not be a surprise to see a few guys go elsewhere in this class. Even with 100% NC success, guys still decommit. We shouldn't freak out if we lose one major recruit. Just be prepared for a decommit somewhere because it is almost guaranteed to happen.
LSU averaged 30 ppg and 360 ypg on offense in 2008, ranking in the top half of all collegiate offensives. Of course no one saw that behind the Ints for TDs that Jarrett Lee was throwing, but it was far from inconsistent. It was pretty solid, especially when you see turnovers the team had versus the production. For the sake of the argument though, lets take your number of two inconsistent seasons, starting the 3rd. So? As long as I have followed LSU sports the football team has never had a great offense year in and year out. There always seems to be some issues outside of the random year when they manage to put it all together. It has yet to seem to affect recruiting. Poor performance is simply opportunity for early playing time.
With respect to 'loosing the Tx guys its really more about who UT wants than what we do. You've heard it before but it's mostly true, Mack doesn't recruit he selects. Every prestigious school in the country comes to Tx to recruit and they usually end up fighting over whoever UT doesn't want.
I don't know about this year, but last season no school had more alumni on active NFL rosters than LSU. Not Miami, not Ohio State and certainly not SC...
