    ratings, how about this?

3-star players who have started or been major contributors since 2002:

    Brian Johnson
    Jessie Daniels
    Daniel Francis
    Chris Jackson
    Jonathon Zenon
    Keith Zinger
    Harry Coleman
    Brett Helms
Jacob Hester (2-star/leading rusher last year)
    Chevis Jackson
    Tyson Jackson
    Curtis Taylor
    Ciron Black
    Trindon Holliday
    Brandon LaFell
    Jacob Cutrera
    Danny McCray

4-stars and above who have accomplished very little:

    Blair Irvin
    Alonzo Manuel
    Terrell McGill
    Lester Ricard
    Jason Spadoni
    Justin Vincent (post 2003/5 star)
    Garrett Wibel
    Nick Child
    Barrington Edwards
    Anthony Hill
    Daryl Johnson
    Sean Merrill
    Jerry Sevin
    Tim Washington
    Lavelle Hawkins
    Matt Stoltz
    Steven Korte
    Antonio Robinson
    Charles Deas
    Zhamal Thomas

Came across this and thought it shows we should trust our coaches' evaluations and not get caught up in the star ratings so much.

Even read where, in his press conference, Steve Spurrier said his first class at SC was filled with top notch, "highly rated" kids- of 24 high prospects, only 10-12 are even still on campus so that says something about the intangibles as well- character, work ethic, etc.

I tell everyone that stars mean something. They don't mean everything, and they mean very little now when the ratings are just in their first iteration.

Recruiting rankings really do mean something. If you look at the recent NFL draft, you see that if you're a 5-star, your chances of being picked in the first two rounds is about 1-in-5, and if you're a 4-star, it's something more like 1-in-25, and if you're a 3-star, it's more like 1-in-100 or so. But 3-stars do make it sometimes, and make it big, as do 2-stars on occasion.

It's just important to keep in mind that the ratings these kids have now is very different from what they'll have in 6 months. Sit back. Chill out. Let the process play itself to its conclusion.

Agree, they do mean something but also, not having a five star rating doesn't automatically spell doom either, especially, like you said, at this point.
