I openly admit Saban has flaws - I was critical during his time here. Saban never had back to back rebuilding years, though. I've concluded there is no such thing as a perfect coach, but it seems clear that Saban is one of the best in 1a (and I can't say the same about Miles despite his record here).

26-14 career SEC record. The reason he is praised so much is because of his OOC record which is flawless, it also helps when you play 3 in state schools or 2 and North Texas a season.

1-1 in SEC Championships, 1 National Title, 4-0 in Bowl games, and 2-0 in BCS games. Someone brought up the SEC record to me yesterday and i never realized it. If we don't beat Arkansas we are looking at a .500 record in the SEC, and that just isn't good enough. I wont call for his head this year, as i didn't last year, but if something isn't fixed and we end up .500 or sub .500 next year, i will call for his head.

7-8 the last two years is not what we would like, but lets consider game management for the last two years, it has been awful. From a coaches point with the co-cordinators and at QB position. Losing RP really hurt LSU weather anyone admits it or not. We have always had a experienced QB to manage the game or one so loaded with talent he could overcome his mistakes. Not the last two years. There is a number of other problems that have showed up this yr. but they will all need to be fixed if we want more than what we are getting. I have faith it will get done.:tigerhead

he could have not held the press conference yesterday. or at least he could have declined to comment "thats all in the past. we want to focus on a very capable arkansas team". and not only did he answer questions, but he was very thorough.

LaSalle I agree. CLM gets one more year. Anything less than SECw he has to be gone. We cannot settle for anything but a chance to play in Atlanta.

Very good point. RP absolutely hurt this program. I don't think CLM had any other choice on that one though. It amazes me that JJ hasn't been coached up more. I understand he is a 19 year old but it's not brain surgery to throw the ball away instead of taking a sack. There has to be some instinct at the QB position. I'm not sure JJ has what we need. I think he is very talented and probably just needs more coaching or the right coaching.

Not to say there is no merit in the JJ not being coached up argument, but I can think of another 19 yr old QB at the helm of a nationally prominent team that is as elite as any other elite team, that is coached by a coach that is regarded as one of the best, that has the same 8-3 record we have in a far inferior conference; yet Miles needs to be fired and not Carroll. I guess Miles is a bafoon and needs to go, and so should Carroll.

    I wouldn't want Carroll here.

I agree 100%. Take it a "little" further (since it was insinuated already) to add he's had top ranked recruiting years year-in/year-out and the fact that, even in wins, we have outplayed very few teams. In many of the wins there have been questionable decisions made by this coach but, because they were wins, the concerns were always swept under the rug. Several of these wins, I believe, were the result of talented players with huge hearts not accepting defeat...not as a result of coaching and preparation. Basically, we've won a lot of games in spite of him, not because of him. And my lord, the penalties and lack of discipline is just astonishing.

Don't you think with the obvious talent JJ has and the fact that it's his second year that he'd be further along than just being a quarterback whose job is not to lose the game...rather than exploiting defenses with the big play weapons he has available? And if this is truly the best offensive line CLM has had, how badly they've failed in protecting the quarterback and establishing an effective running game. Does that not come under "coaching"?

And CLM promise that last weeks time/game mismanagement will never be an issue again. Hasn't he seen the potential of that happening repeatedly over the years with the boneheaded plays and game mismanagement under his administration?

By all indications the Louisiana recruits for 2011 are going to be out of this world, we need to make changes now to make sure they WANT to play for our beloved Tigers. This guy is threatening to bring this program back to the pre-Saban years. Think Saints and bring in a genius (offense or defense) as a HC and expect him to hire the best genius on the other side of the ball and go with it. Even though our defense hasn't been great, I really like the potential of a Chavis led defense. Crowton, however, has to go...along with CLM!

You can't forget RECRUITING! We are probably going to lose Larry Porter after this season. He's one of the best in the country. An emphasis here, too!

USC's problems this year go far beyond the QB. Their defense gave up something like 48 to Oregon & 56 to Stanford. That's tuff for any QB to overcome. Also their running game lost something when that kid crushed his throat weightlifting. He was more their power back which McKnight isn't. Their QB has looked pretty good and put up some decent numbers. Not to USC's usual standards but he is a true freshman, he has less experience than JJ. What I'd like to see though is if/when Miles gets a new OC that he also gets a good solid QB coach. JJ and probably even JL would benefit immensely and remember Garrett will also be coming up to the plate.
