It's my opinion the reason the games have been close these last few years is because these two teams lined up and played helmet on helmet. In fact, I'd dare say LSU is the only team in the SEC that's been able to go head to head.
As the last few years have demonstrated, why go head to head with the strongest team in CFB. Why make a living example of a cliche. When was the last time Alabama lost a helmet on helmet game? Nov, 2012 because their kicker couldn't kick a filed goal that night. Those days are over. LSU may lose again this year but they will lose with a chance of winning.
LSU is the only team who can play man up on Bama. Our problem was their coach was better than ours. Les out coached Nick once and it never happened again. We had them beat a couple times since that night and lost at the end because Les was too soft to make the kill. You trade coaches and Saban wins the same amount with our guys and Les blows the same with his. LOS is where Bama makes a living and Nick had them solid in that department.
LSU DL is getting there and close to Bama, but OL is not even close. Still have a way to go there. We don't even have a competent, SEC quality back-up Center to come in if Clapp goes down in the Fall. Grimes shouldn't have run Dodd off as a Senior. Huge mistake. TF Deculus will start and be the next Whitworth. Better cross train him at Center, just in case. Potential disaster at that position...........
I'm going to go out on a limb and say that LSU checked it out and got the green light before making the announcement.
