Truly don't know the answer to this...so take it easy on me...I just wanna know. How was Justin Vincent rated? I started to mention Alley, too...but that's not really fair considering his injury. But wasn't JV a 5*? And what about Addai?
Justin Vincent was a 5 star, could not look up Addai due to rivals only goes back to 2002 on their web site. But he wasn't a 5 star for sure. Hester was a two star on rivals. If you look back at our recent recruiting history, there are alot of rivals 4 star as well as rivals 3 star players that made a big impact on the program. I don't see much of a difference percentage wise between the two. To me whats important is how the coaches rate them (granted, not that they actually rate them by stars). I just can't see why they would extend a scholorship offer to any one at this time in the recruiting process who they don't have ranked as at least 4 star (or whatever equivalent way they go about rating players). Why, before their senior season is even played, would they recieve a scholorship offer from LSU if LSU coaches saw them as having 3 star ability. If it is just to fill out the class, that could be done closer to signing day, if needed. I just can't see the coaching staff worring about being able to fill out this class with players they feel can't make an impact at LSU this early in the recruiting game especially with the type of season we expect to have on the field this year. In other words, every player we have a commitment from or have extended an offer to is probably rated as at least 4 stars by the coaching staff whether rivals or scout has them now rated or will ever have them rated at 4 stars. Probably I am just a homer but it just doesn't make sense to me any other way.
OK...I sorta lied. I knew JV was a 5*...and that Addai was not...although I don't know if he was a 3* or 4*. Point is this...Obviously, Addai>Vincent...or Broussard...no matter how you wanna slice it. 5* are NOT always superior to the 4*'s...or even 3*'s. For that matter, I don't think anyone would trade 2* Hester's accomplishments and contributions to the T-E-A-M for those of JV OR Broussard. Don't OVER-estimeate the stars that are handed out by Rivals and Scout. Let it all settle out and see if the coaches know what they're doing more than Rivals or Scout. Either that, or just check the history...which you already have done...and come to the conclusion. Also, how many times have you seen KW lose a fumble? Joe McKnight? We came out on the better end of that one, too, I bet.:thumb:
What everyone fails to mention, is that the mighty gators, you know, the ones that just won a national championship and are ranked 4 in the polls, are actually behind us in recruiting according to rivals/scout. Either the coaching staffs of the two highest ranked programs from the SEC have completely lost their touch, or maybe they know what they are doing. I will go with the latter.
I believe he was a 4 star, but there's no way to check. As far as the draft is concerned, there may be a difference... Let's examine it. JaMarcus, Bowe, Buster Davis, Dorsey, Steltz, Herman Johnson, Beckwith, RJF, and LaRon were all 4 star recruits. Doucet & Claude Wroten were 5 stars. (Xavier Carter & Justin Vincent were also 5 stars.) Chevis Jackson & Zenon were both 3's, as well as Tyson Jackson & Ciron Black. It looks to me like, overall, our 4 & 5 star players are more likely to be drafted on the first day than our 3 star players. But we had many 4 star recruits never even make it in the 2 deep or do anything at this level & many 3 stars that became starters & have/will be drafted on the first day. Exactly. If we offer & accept a commitment early in the process, it is because the player fits our criteria - it's a position of need, and the player is very good.
I may be missing something but why does it appear Larry Porter is doing very little (if any??) recruiting this season. This after he was named National Recruiter of the Year by rivals and pulling in many big named recruits last year. Just curious. Peveto seems to be taking the charge this year...dunno.
One thing though is that there are a lot more 4 & 5 star players on the team than two and three star. From 2003 through 2007 we have signed 118 players, of those 42 are 3 star and 76 are 4 or 5 star according to rivals ratings. If you look at who the 3 star players on the team are, it dosent look like they lack anything in quality in comparison or contribution to the team compared to the higher rated players. It's close anyway. (would put a link to those pages on rivals but don't know how to do links)
