How is it that LSU, the second ranked team in the nation, leading the nation in defense has no 5 star commitments? I know the news.. LSU coaches are thrilled with the way its going etc etc.... I also know stars don't mean squat on the field... but darn.. give me one at least.. just one.... Is that asking to much??
Plus a lot of the guys that are committed right now have great chances to have there ratings and star ratings rise in the next few months.
Recruiting rankings are going to change. Right now, Florida is ranked 25th with six verbals (Four 4 Stars & One Three Star). I think that both LSU and Florida will be much higher when all is said and done. Here's a link to Rivals... http://rivals100.rivals.com/teamrank.asp?SID=880
There aren't a lot of 5-star guys within our traditional recruiting zones. We're in on a couple, but last year we had the luxury of having a 5-star in our back yard (Chad jones)and another who astonishingly wasn't recruited heavily by his home state school (T. Toliver). This year, the closest 5-star recruit is out in mobile, where the competition is awfully heavy.
Earlier in the process once we lost out on our top 2 QBs & some OLine, I thought this would be a year where we didn't get any 5 star recruits. Now I think we get two though, counting Benton from Hargrave. Somebody we thought we had lost out on will change their mind.
Just visited Scout.com football recruiting-all prospects --- It looks bad guys... the first page is almost all committed - to everyone but us... Oh.. who is the best high school punt return guy in the nation... we should go beg him to visit... what are we - last in the conference..
OH NOOOO! The sky is falling!!! Get a grip, man. You do realize that "committed" doesn't mean crap in September, right? In fact...it doesn't mean crap until February. Also, that first page will be shuffled as the HS season goes on. I think we'll be OK. Nobody was predicting us to have another top 5 class this year...as there isn't a lot of upper echelon talent graduating '08 in our area. But next year...lookout.:thumb: We have so many freshman and sophomore studs right now, it's OK to have a "down" year...where we finish a "terrible" 10th - 15th in recruiting.
I would suggest everyone settle down. Football recruiting is as much about getting depth as it is about getting star power. It looks like this is going to be as much of a "depth" class as it is a star power class. Next year looks to be a star power class, as was last year.
