It's just amazing to me that people just assume he will be offered the job. I wonder how many coaches their must be in all of college football? Heck, maybe an assistant under Car will get the gig anyway. I look at it this way. It no longer matters who the coach is at LSU, especially right during this playoff run, yes, every game from here on out is the playoffs in my book. Even if CLM's isn't around later on, this has to be the most attractive gig in the nation coming off a NC this year or finishing in the top 5, either way. LSU has NEVER been better off to find a top coach.
Here are some postive quotes from O'Keefe on the Miles rumors. http://www.shreveporttimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20071114/SPORTS0202/711140317/1028
I feel you. We can't concern ourselves with the future of our coach. Only Carr and Les Miles knows what will happen with their immediate futures. And Miles can't know anything until Carr does. So lets just focus on this Chamionship.
i didn't see this before i posted my rant but I agree 100%. even if miles does go to michigan, it won't be until after we win a championship.
He's a fool if he believes that. Michigan won't have to match the LSU $$- being where his heart is will be worth a lot. "Now", yes.......the Michigan job isn't open.
Technically, I agree with you but it is not a rumor. I would be shocked otherwise. This has been set up from the start of the season. The AD responded to the rumors early in the season by saying he will never fire Carr while he still was willing to coach at UM. Basically setting up the retirement talk because the retirement was already set in place during the Summer in his contract. I have not read the contract yet but clauses were recently placed in the contract stating that his assistant coaches would be protected from being fired for 2 years after his departure and Carr was to be paid a lump sum of 300K of this contract amount this July if he was either coaching the team or working within the athletic department. Guess the new coach will have no say so with his top assistants. So as you can see it is going to happen and the wheels have been in place since last Summer and the coaching search has already begun.
Les is being very careful not to offend LSU fans. He is also being careful not to offend Michigan fans. Above all, he is being careful not to get caught in a lie. And they say Nick is smarter than Les.
I am a Les backer as my posts, and sig will indicate. But the thing I find most amusing about this thread is I seem to keep hearing CLM on national radio talking a lot more about the Maize and Blue then the Purple and Gold. He was on Rome today promoting a Bo Schembechler book (albeit for a noble cause)! The upcoming game with Ole Miss was barely even mentioned. Rome gave him the will you be the coach of LSU next year question, which Miles smartly ducked. :milesmic: is definitely not doing much to squelch this. He is the one putting himself out there right now, and in the interest of the Maize and Blue no less. Today is the first day I really believed that if/when offered, he will go. I just hope that if it comes down to that it won't cost the players any championships.
