How ungrateful some fans are. Well actually I would not call all these negative posters true fans. We played a GREAT team last night and lost by 10. And we will be playing another Great team in Alabama and we will lose that one too. The sacks JJ took last night were mostly coverage sacks. Our receivers were blanketed last night and even an experienced QB would have had trouble. Toliver could have made it easier by actually catching some of them. I thought we played a pretty good game, with a young offense against a great defense. Settle down an except a 10-2 or 9-3 season and a good bowl game win. Remember 21 of those 22 players on that team won a NCG last year.
I suppose you didn't notice the poor passes JJ was throwing. High sometimes, behind the receiver other times. I'm not sure he threw more than one or two "good passes" all night.
I have noticed throughout the season that our receiver route running has not been very good. I think the announcers last night pointed it out as well. Our offense does need an overhaul.
I am sure you lifelong fans will be asked by the coaching staff what they should do next. JJ is a freshman QB so to speak playing in his first game of this magnitude, I am sure everyone expected mistakes from him. The experienced receivers could have helped a little more. The game plan was also vanilla, as our TE and Shep was not used at all. JJ has played a total of 8 or 9 games at this level and you act like he should have been playing like the guy on the other side. This team is NOT a NC team YET, but they have the talent to be in the future. I see the problems with him too, he looks a little tentative and he is not as good in the pocket as when he rolls out, but guess what, we don't coach, WE WATCH, so enjoy what you have. I like what we have because I remember the days when we didn't.:tigerhead
Weren't all those defensive starters for Florida sophomores last year? I guess we need to wait for our QB to be a fifth-year senior to be good while our competition can do it in their second year. Don't question loyalty simply because someone doesn't agree with your OPINION. (NOT FACT...simply OPINION) JJ's sacks were not coverage sacks. He continues to stare down a single receiver and if that man is covered he doesn't know what to do. Most Tiger fans didn't expect a NC this year but think there is enough talent to contend next year. The fear is that JJ is not developing and the play calling is all over the place. When you're in your sixth game and playing at home, you shouldn't be lining up offsides or jumping early. I hope JJ can develop into a great QB. There are many QBs playing for top teams this year who have less experience yet are more comfortable and make better decisions than JJ. He CAN'T run the option, singles in on one WR, doesn't get rid of the ball, throws for five yards when we need seven, and doesn't read defenses well. Hopefully these are correctable. This team has far too much talent to lose to Auburn, Ole Miss, or Arkansas. If we can't move the ball better and give our defense a breather, we will lose more than we should. It wasn't just against a great Florida defense, we're only averaging 23 points a game and those weren't all due to the offense. That's not being critical of the team...that's a fact that there are problems on our offense that run deeper than youth.
After watching some of the Ga Tech game from last year, I actually think that Jefferson has regressed in that he is looking much more tentative than then. I wonder if he's being "overcoached" if such a thing exists. Maybe he's thinking too much instead of reacting and relying on his instincts.
JJ has one receiver in mind. if that WR isn't open, he tries to scramble and can make a play. Lee was the same way, he just couldn't scramble. HOWEVER, Lee deserves a shot again. I'd honestly rather see the picks with 300 yards passing than 1 pick and 100 yards. Crazy, you say? Frankly, i don't see LSU winning any more SEC games with our offense right now. Auburn, Bama, and Ole Miss have D's better than UGA, which we couldn't score against. Other than Ole Miss, all three have better offenses than us. I don't htink we can outscore the Hogs right now.
I am not questioning loyalty either.Maybe I did not start the thread right. I was just trying to say that even if you are frustrated or angry at what happened we are still a good football team with adjustments and experience needed to be a great football team. Some looked to me to be poor route running and coverage sacks. He held the ball afraid to throw it and the protection broke down. Had he tried to throw it and it was intercepted then what would we be saying. "He should have just took the sack." Maybe some experience will help or maybe he is just not the guy. That was Defense, not JJ's fault. I agree 100% but his development may be a coaching and play calling problem. I am sure after what happened to JL last year it was beat into his head not to chance throwing an interception. I also agree with this, as I think we are good enough to have a 1 or 2 loss season and I sure hope it happens that way. And as far as Auburn and Arkansas after watching this week I think we can move the ball easily against these defenses if we are not stifled by play calling.
