I think there's also something to be said about luck and intangibles mentioned in the article. Florida has been exceptionally lucky the last few years that they haven't had any serious injuries at key positions. If Tebow goes down for any length of time they can forget about sniffing another NC. I'm not saying Florida's "due" for the injury bug to bite, but it's something we've had to deal with more often than they have (Dorsey and Doucet in '07, Hatch and Lee in '08).
I think we're the suprise team of the year. Seriously. Yes our schedule is tough with the road games at 'Bama and Ole Miss, and the back-to-back games at UGA and them home vs UF. But, we are loaded with talent also. We have seniors at many key positions. Seniors with something to prove- that last year was an abberation and not a sign of things to come. What folks are NOT mentioning- After UF we have a bye week to get ready for Auburn. After Auburn we have Tulane and THEN 'Bama. After 'Bama we have LaTech and THEN Ole Miss, and then revenge against Arky. The only real difference between Florida and LSU is Tim Tebow. If we can keep him in check, or bang him around, we can beat them. We can beat Florida. We can beat any team on our schedule. We can win the West! :crystal::geaux::crystal::geaux::crystal:
UF has issues at wideout. I can't see anyone on that team that will really do much. That could pose a problem, especially in a game in which they have to rally with a come from behind victory.
I am gonna have to REALLY agree with you. Not only does your post make a helluva Lotta sense, I'm tired of the detractors here at Tiger Forums for the last few weeks. I'm having a hard time understanding all the negativity associated with our team this year. I've had my negative moments, but only after negative on-the-field problems. We've had no problems YET. We're not that far removed from the crystal we last won. I have all the confidence in the world that we can get there again. I'm ready for some Tiger football.
1. i think fl could go undefeated b/c of strength of schedule 2. they can still run teh ball-- have plenty of depth and speed 3. tebow 4. they are just one play from a touchdown anytime , anywhere on the field i reserve my prediction before selecting the winner of the lsu game
I agree with skippy. Last year, 'bama went undefeated until the SECCG....so it can be done. UF has a way better team this year than 'bama had last year. I think what some folks may be overlooking is the gator defense....every player back plus all (or damn near all) of the backups. That alone will give them a leg up in most/all games. With the way Tebow runs the offense, anytime he is given a short field (UF will force turnovers), it's gonna be 7 points. If there was ever a time to "predict" someone going undefeated in the SEC, I believe this year is as ripe as ever to do so. Having said that, I think the team that stands in the way of them being undefeated is LSU...either in the regular season or the SECCG.:geauxtige
So you're saying defend them with speed, right? Hee-hee...I keep reading about how Chavis is putting a serious premium on speed this year...moving average-speed players in their respective positions into a slower postion to make them FAST at their new position. Let's see...how did the advocate put it this morning? An average-speed corner becomes a really fast safety (Brandon Taylor) and an average-speed safety becomes a lightning-fast LB (Harry Coleman). In fifteen more days, we'll find out just how fast they are.
Returning a lot of players doesn't automatically translate into a great defense. Ohio State in '07 was supposed to be a defensive juggernaut and for the most part was until...well, the rest is history. Florida's schedule is a joke, so they could conceivably pull it off. But the unexpected has a way of rearing its ugly head, and I have a feeling Florida's good fortune is just about to run out.
I agree that returning a lot of players doesn't automatically translate into a great defense. The Buckeye team you reference got it's @ss kicked in the NC game the prior year by FL....everyone in the SEC knew that defense was overrated in '07. UF defense on the otherhand shut down a pretty good OU team in the NC game last year, concluding a pretty impressive run the gators were on after the Ole Piss loss. The gator defense is the real deal....that's all I'm sayin.
