Yeah, I gotta agree with SF on this one. Even Herbie and Mushmouth were split after watching the replay in slow motion about ten times from a few different angles. Seemed to me his forearm touched the OB line about the same time his elbow touched green turf. Both of these teams are pretty young and looked pretty good. Tebow is a better QB than I'd like to admit. He showed some amazing pocket poise last night, stepping up, making very good throws on the run, keeping his eyes downfield. I did notice that even Superman stares down his primary receivers, though...
What amazed me even more was the play where Tebow lost the ball when he was going down and it rolled into the endzone. Two options for the refs... 1. If he actually threw the ball it was a penalty. 2. If he lost control of the ball it was a touchback. So what did they do? They totally ignored it like as if it never happened. That is the kind of stuff you normally see in Jacksonville.
There was a receiver standing where the ball hit the turf. It was clearly a throw from the arm motion. They didnt' ignore it. They made the right no-call. I dislike CUM and the Gaytors and Timmay as much as the next guy, but this wasn't even close to a bad call. In fact, I hate Timmay for having that much poise to refuse to take the loss of yardage.
Somebody was standing where the ball hit, but from the replay all you could see was legs. Illegal receiver downfield maybe?
Doubt it. Maybe. I remember it being a big guy like the TE or FB. I just tried to look this up but don't have time to find it. I think there's something in there that says if the QB is out of "the pocket", he can pretty much throw it anywhere he wants. I THINK grounding only counts when the QB is in the pocket. But I can't prove it. Maybe someone here has the reference to prove or disprove that.
Once you are outside the tackle box he can throw it at the ground if he wants, but that was the tight end standing there. You just have to follow the sequence of film before and after. As to the overturned catch, that was a bad call. There were several angles and only one showed his elbow coming down in bounds but did not show the ball at the same time. Other angles showed he did not have control of the ball. And he in fact lost the ball when he (not the ball) hit the ground. Catch or not, there was not enough evidence to overturn it. And considering that Florida would have kicked a field goal, it was an important one to get right. They blew it, and fans with no dog in the hunt saw it clearly as evidenced by national boards. The fact that Pussberger argued it was a catch was all the evidence I needed to know it was not a catch. Even so, Florida seemed to turn on the gas afterwards. I didn't realize either Miami's defense is that fast, or Florida has some issues on the OLine. And I loved watching them air it out for the endzone when they were up by 3 TD's and 6 mins to go. That Meyer sure is one of the bestest coaches in the whole wide world...:rolleye33:
He can be out of the pocket, but it's also grounding if the ball doesn't make it past the LOS no matter where he is.
